Well, I checked myself into rehab today. I start Thursday night in an outpatient evening program. They wanted me to do the day program, or start tomorrow night. But I can't or won't quit school so close to graduation for the day program. And I gotta run it by my probation officer on Thursday before I can just start the evening program since it violates my curfew. But I'm sure she won't have any problems with it.

I am an addict but don't really think I need help quitting anything since I quit everything but cigarettes cold turkey about 2 weeks ago. But who am I to judge? What I do need is guidance to stay clean and find out what to do next. In addition I am hoping rehab will keep me out of prison. If the judge orders me to join the inpatient program, I have no choice but to put school on hold.

So I hope this is the point at which I can turn my life around and hopefully actually do something with it.
good luck, Im a counselor and I counsel in an outpatient program, and I tell you, if you do everything they tell you to do,
follow rules and regs, attend as scheduled, share your feelings in groups and individual sessions, and don't think you are cured because you haven't used in 2 weeks, you can make it in outpatient, because they will send a report to the Judge, and your progress will be on that report, and the Judge will take a look at that progress and will leave you there, wont send you to impatient program
just stay clean and do the program, think that this is for now, and listen to the counselors, at the end you may not want to use drugs anymore, and will learn to like who you are sober.

It's always refreshing to see someone let it all go, acknowledge a problem and get to work on it. Assuming I make it to mid june, it'll be 6 years for me.

hey that's good for you EZ4Sheezy. that's something you brought it up because l'm suppose to have a girlfriend! that went into rehab she has not contacted me for 6 week's now and i'm hurt over this she said she would stay in touch can someone contact there lover from rehab even a email and how long should i wait for her to get clean?what

Romee they dont always allow any outside contacts besides immediate family. Sometimes not even family if there is abuse taking place there also. The problem is they cant always discern who is clean and sober in the person's life so they might just say no outside contacts for a period of time.

And good luck to you EZ.
hey thank you Mazikeenflowerforyou
that helped me to better uderstand rehab" she was on drugs a long time and had high depression' so i pray she will get better so that's why she hasn't contacted me because the rehab people won't let her yet i see:smile:

That's awesome bro, stick with it no matter what!! Take advantage of what is offered in the rehab program and in the rooms. Some of it may not make sense now, but later may make a lot more sense, so be careful to store the information regardless of how pertinent it may seem now...

I am so thrilled to see there are a lot of people who are in recovery on this site. Maybe we should ask the mods if they could open a discussion group for rehab peoples?

I have been clean and sober since 9/20/94 myself.

Here is the reality of this since I have friends who have gone the path you have and got caught. It sounds like you were offered "DIVERSION" but I am not sure if it is the same thing in your state. As first offense the judge has the option of putting you into a rehab situation and monitoring you through probation. THIS IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW!!! NOTE THIS INFORMATION!!!

Find out if this is keeping the felony off your record! Many times Diversion is a form of court ordained forgiveness with strings attached! As long as you fly true to what the court wants you will not have the felony on your record!!! MANY TIMES JUDGES WILL NOT DO ANYTHING TO AFFECT YOU IF YOU ARE IN SCHOOL! Be sure the judge approves of the program you are enrolling in. As long as you are showing "good faith" in trying to meet the court's wishes you can almost get away with murder.

The fact you are not in the can at this time says a lot. I know someone who blew it when he was in diversion and failed a DT. He was arrested on the spot, seen the judge the next day, and that was the last I seen of him for two years! What was even funnier was he tried one of those "Guaranteed to pass" kits a lot of head shops sell. Well, two problems, one, they don't work for meth, and two it fails most of the time with 4:20 anyways. I have yet to see one of those kits work. A lot of new tests look for the chemicals that are used to try to "Pass" the test. As long as you can keep your shoulder to the wheel you will be fine and come out of this far better than you would have if you had an anally retentive judge. Also keep in mind if they ask for a hair they WILL know what you have been doing for months and there is no way of fooling that test!

It sounds like the state is not getting too draconian on you but they can!

Also you are right, COLD TURKEY is the only way to quit anything! I used to have a three pack a day habit and that was a fun one to kick. So at least I can understand where you are at. Props that you are taking the road less traveled because many attempts of rehabilitation are failures because the person could not quit the hard way and tried to nurse themselves off via another substance.

Good luck and do try to make sure the judge is aware you are in school and almost finished. Also the rehab councilor, if they are worth anything that person will appear in court with you to help schedule your rehab to coincide with your class attendance. Judges like to see the face of the person who is supposed to be lending you support through diversion! It shows them you are not out to fake them out or deceive them and actually gets you points in your favor with the judge.

Good luck.

Information duely noted. Those are perhaps the most encouraging words I have heard since I got arrested. Will most definitely heed every one of them. Did I say that right? You get the idea.

Thank you all for the support. Way more than I expected from way more people than I expected. I will definitely return the favors whenever or however possible.

Good luck, EZ. Have a friend in rehab, so I know how tough a decision it is/was for you to make (at least, it was for them). It's a huge step, so take pride in yourself in making it.

Romee, you could try asking her family. Chances are the rehabilitation facility will not give out any information on her to anyone that is not immediate family. Its similar to being in prison. They do that to make certain that the abuser is not in contact with anyone who might attempt to score for them or be a bad influence when they are vulnerable.

I would try this and then move on.

I would wish you luck,,, but it's more about new skills..
So, I wish you skills brother...

You are bigger and stronger then that trap... You rule yourself now... Toss those cigs while your at it on this clean up... I have been in your shoes when I was a teen... I'm happy for your change..I know it took "the mans" gavel to motivate me as well...

Well that settles it then. They are not even allowing her access to her immediate family. It could be because she is fighting them on her treatment also. You just never know what is going on except that they have decided not to give her access to anyone on the outside. If I were you I would move on if there was no commitment before she went in. You could send her a letter and see if it is returned.

Good luck to you my friend.....it can be done!!! If you ever need to talk just hollar!!!!!

Congrats to you as well. Funny how for such a long period of time a buzz can feel so great, then after a couple weeks clean they can realize how good they can feel without a buzz. Then all the sudden motivation starts coming back. They start caring about their looks and health. Start getting compliments on looks and health. Finding different and better people to relate to. All kinds of good stuff.

Compliments on looks and health??? Can I go too? drool

Seriously, congratulations on that. The first step in solving problems is knowing that there is one. (kaff kaff) Excuse me.

Its amazing how many people get put on these rehab programs that dont go through with it.

Whether or not you want to quit or want to do it with help from these programs or not, if you dont go along with it, it looks really bad on you when it goes to court.

Treat it seriously, always be on time and never miss one. I hope it works out for you.

15 years for me EZ. This is where your life changes. This is where you get the chance to control your own life for once and dictate your future. You're getting the biggest chance of all. It will have its awkward moments, but after awhile the life you build will come naturally. Welcome to the club.
