Is it just me, or have you noticed that the American Dream has changed. It seems like the new American Dream is to pop out as many babies as you can, live on welfare and SSI and neglect the children while putting yourself first?

I don't know about you, but I like the original dream better, work hard, get the nice house with the picket fence, whife, children, and dog. Not relying on the government to take care of you.

I don't know about people nowadays...

I disagree. I don't think the American Dream has changed. However, I do believe the way the media reports events makes it seem so. Most people are inherently good and kind and want to succeed in finding whatever their happiness is.

I used to believe people were inherently good and kind, but I'm not so sure anymore. I definetly believe people want to find their happiness for sure, I just see more people taking the wrong path toward finding it.

I don't think the American Dream has changed in any way- its just the way we go about achieving that dream

sure- people are popping out children at an alarming rate but as for just being on SSI- it is super hard to get that I would know as I have a disabled child and after 9 long months and pretty much turning myself inside out-he got qualified- so that is probably not a fair statement- People have just figured out how to work the system, and it sucks but the dream is still the same im my humble opnion.

For the most part people are good- i absolutely have to believe that but the harshness of todays society tends to make people harder and less trusting but not bad!!

I think that there are many individuals who believe in the dreams they have...perhaps the "American" Dream is still there, at least I believe it is...it makes me sad to think that people so not have a dream of having a life of love, laughter, and living...yet,I know that having food and shelter is all some can dare to dream for.

The fabric of our society has changed and therefore; I would imagine the image of the "American" dream is different for different people. I know that my perception of what the "white picket fence syndrome" has changed over the years...not necessarily worse or less...just different.

not so sure that people's 'drive' to achieve the dream has not changed as well...it seems that many people live in a world where they expect (and many times receive) instant gratification...the respect for experience and wisdom has changed somewhat...we live in a very different world...and it will continue to change...

someone once said that the best day to plant a tree (dream) was 20 years ago...the next best day is today!

I kind of like that saying....

and maybe that is why I like living 'somewhere over the rainbow...a place where dreams really do come true..'

The problem is that too many people let intellectual inertia and raw tradition dictate what is is they think they should be "dreaming" about....

The "American Dream" was ruined at the point, where both parents had to start to work 40hrs or more to keep up with the payments, buried in debt, barely see each other, the kids know their babysitter better than their parents, no saving to speak of, and the relationship relies on materialistic base and you spend 3/4 of your life driving alone in an SUV, stuck in traffic and you take stress relief pills just not to go crazy.

Compare this to the 60s or 70s, when you could live off from 1 paycheck, have a car or 2 , 2-3 kids and your wife at home, waiting for you with a home cooked dinner and a saving account with enough money to live your senior years in security and no worries. Top it off with Summer vacations for 2-3 weeks every year.

Now here comes the interesting next episode:

-You lost your job, and you are divorcing, and the bank either bankrupt or won't give you more loans, and you got no money.

...to be continued...

I don't know about you, but my "American Dream" is going as planned. This country is falling out, and the people are in an uprising, anarchy befalls...perfection.

the true colors of anything human are only seen when self is put under extreme pressure???

mankind has only come to believe it is what itself is when all is good, but only how one react when all things go haywire, does one really show what itself is???

to have nothing is but to find what one hold most dear beyond all material possessions, and beyond anything given to self in return from another human being alive???

what self can be made to do in ALL AND ANY CIRCUMSTANCES CONCEIVABLE, is who self really is???

take all things and other's from self, then one see's who and what self really is, which but birth the greatest prize in the universe, to know what ONE thing one most value in life???

surprisingly enough, it will never end up being self???

peace

That's not the American Dream in my area.noway

The people in my area aren't popping out as many babies as they can and live on welfare and neglect their children.noway

Btw, people on SSI have physical disabilities. Nobody wants to grow up and be that way.

This is the American Dream in my area.

I dunno, I'm living the Dream, one day at a time.

I am about to merge a design business with my trucking company.

Next year I'm buying another truck, hiring a team to run it and a tow truck for recovery jobs.

I have two happy, healthy, creative, beautiful and intelligent clones.

Personally, complaining about life will get you nowhere slowly. Grab whatever you can whenever you can, flip it to your advantage and run with it.

The American Dream is still there... GO GET IT!
