Watch your dogs around candy. I knew it wasn't good for them and never gave it to him,but I am kinda shocked it did this.

there is something in the chocolate candy that interacts with their chemical balance that causes this to happen

...yes. Cocao, cocoa, and chocolate liquor are deadly to dogs. On a canine system built to digest enzymes and protiens chocolate is very bad. It poisons them. Also bad are cinnomon and anise/ 5 star anise. Think twice before you let your dog have that scrap piece of cinnomon toast.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

So very sorry for your lose! brokenheart flowerforyou

Friendly note for fellow pet owners:

Yes Candy, especially chocolate can kill animals. Also onions, and household plants.
So can alot of other things- we would'nt even think could.
Our best defense is to child proof our homes like we have small children around (including putting candy safely out of reach).
They will- and do get into things, even when they are well trained.
I had a dog that ate a wooden stick once, and it caused major probblems and allmost its life. They will eat/drink just about anything if they think it smells good. Also chewing on some things can be hazardouse too.

*Raw hide chews are an accident waiting to happen. They can choke to death on them, they are not digestable. They can also become lodged in their insides and cause blockage and death. Yet they are still sold by the dozens everywhere.*
