How do you tell someone that you like (as a non-sexual friend) that you only want to be friends when they want to be more?
Do you: 1. Bluntly lay it out and hope you can still be friends? 2. Let them down easy? 3. Keep it the same and hope hey get the hint? 4. Cut & run? |

Love ya but not like that

I go for blunt but tactful. Have had to do this a couple times in the past, and it was never easy. But, I would prefer that someone be honest and up front with me if the shoe were to be on the other foot, so I take the "honesty is best" approach.

ya gotta let him know as soon as possible, because otherwise, it may get messy later... gently as possible... if he truly likes you too, he will understand! |

You are too good a friend and i wouldnt want to ruin it with a relationship. Thats the classic one. At least in my life history, i got that one a few times! Damn friend zone! See, I never used the "wouldn't want to ruin it" line, because that would feel like a lie. My line usually ran along the lines of "I care about you very deeply as a person and as a friend, but the feelings necessary for a successful relationship just aren't there. It wouldn't be fair to either of us to pursue anything else, and it would be cruel to prevent you from meeting someone who can return the feelings wholeheartedly" I HATE saying that to someone, but I'd rather be honest than do long term damage. |

7) I suffer from a rare congenital disorder that prevents me from having relationships.
