For myself, I started playing golf back in grade school, one of my Aunts showed me the game and I only recently started playing again after quitting 17 years ago.

I am not the stereo-typical golfer in the "prep school, doctor/ lawyer/ elitist" since... I am a Rock-and-Roll type golfer, mp3 player set on Slipknot, Sabbath or whatever type of music I am currently into to that week. I'll shoot 18 and just enjoy the day.
The thrill of the game itself is about skill, control and patients. How much control can you have over the ball considering outside elements such as; the wind speed and direction, how fast or slow the greens roll and what the heck is that dork in the plaid pants doing in my drive line? "Fore!!! numb nuts"

When playing with a group I prefer mixed doubles or Guys vs Girls, we do talk finance, tell jokes and just generally socialize.

Its fun to go out and enjoy the weather. I play by myself mostly (my Dad will come down and play if he gets time), and its good to see how much better i got from the last time I played. I may not be able to whack the ball 100 yards in one swing yet, but I'm damn good at putting. And I like mini golf too

Golf looks like fun to me. Though, the people you normally see playing it can't play any other sport anyway, so it may be better for them to be outside playing golf than sitting on thier asses doing nothing.

Golf for me is my escape. Be it from work, family, stress, whatever.

It's a sexual thing..Men love putting things in holes. and when I played golf, I always had me ex kiss my balls for good luck before I left the House.
