Just asking if you'd be willing to give up your citizenship...not saying
it's a requirement.

A lot of people are saying "yes" right off the cuff, that "love"
conquers all, and things like that.

But what about being in a completley strange place, not knowing anyone,
where most people don't speak English, where, for instance, the women
have to wear veils or burkas or similar situations, where there might be
war or threat of war, where the food, the customs, the weather -- nearly
EVERYTHING -- is completely strange and unfamiliar to you?

Ok.well Jean I don't plan on wearing a burka..I can barely wear a t
shirt in a hot climate..happy

As to a country suffering civil unrest or oppressive conditions towards
women...no, not a hope..only because I have young children, and I have
too many differing beliefs.

In those circumstances compromise..definately, to live in a neutral
country, for both of us, yes.

To learn a new language, in a place where I know no-one,except for him,
yes...what an adventure!!

Any country has it's own culture, traditions, language, as in
colloquialisms, how wonderful to have an opportunity to learn it.

For me, any country that does not threaten my beliefs, which includes my
equality, is fine..

And again, I will dual citizenship, for my children's sake, but I am not
so attached at identifying with one nationality.

I agree...it'd be one thing to move to Spain or France or Italy, for
instance; it'd be another entirely to live in a country where you didn't
have the freedom we enjoy here in America, where your safety might be
threatened, or where, as a woman, particularly, you'd be treated as
though you're REALLY a second-class citizen.

I have been talking to a man who is of Lebanese and Russian descent and
who is currently working in Dubai as an architect.

He is the sweetest thing in the world and has the prettiest green eyes.

I have no plans, of course, to ever visit or move there, but the thought
for this thread came to mind because of my conversations with him.

We both like each other a lot and have said it'd be nice if we didn't
live so far apart from each other.

He's coming to Canada to work sometime in the not-too-distant future and
I might go visit him while he's there. I haven't really given it serious
thought, but ...hey, stranger things have happened.

Yes i would travel to see them.

I would never give up my citizenship though. Not in my current situation
that is. I am Too involved in the care and upbringing of my daughters.
But when there on their own and grown up i would consider giving it up
them and moving.

I recently had to make a decision about just this question. I would be
willing to visit someone in another country, but as for moving there I
could not. I also could not ask or expect someone else to do something
that I was not willing to do myself. I certainly would never allow
someone to leave their children behind for me.
