I thought this was worth remembering


Guess our national leaders didn't expect this, hmm? On Thursday,
Darrell
Scott, the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine High School
shootings in Littleton , Colorado , was invited to address the House
Judiciary Committee's subcommittee. What he said to our national leaders
during this special session of Congress was painfully truthful.

They were not prepared for what he was to say, nor was it received well.
It
needs to be heard by every parent, every teacher, every politician,
every
sociologist, every psychologist, and every so-called expert! These
courageous words spoken by Darrell Scott are powerful, penetrating, and
deeply personal. There is no doubt that God sent this man as a voice
crying
in the wilderness The following is a portion of the transcript:

"Since the dawn of creation there has been bo th good & evil in the
hearts
of men and women. We all contain the seeds of kindness or the seeds of
violence. The death of my wonderful daughter, Rachel Joy Scott, and the
deaths of that heroic teacher, and the other eleven children who died
must
not be in vain. Their blood cries out for answers.

"The first recorded act of violence was when Cain slew his brother Abel
out
in the field. The villain was not the club he used.. Neither was it the
NCA,
the National Club Association The true killer was Cain, and the reason
for
the murder could only be found in Cain's heart.

"In the days that followed the Columbine tragedy, I was amazed at how
quickly fingers began to be pointed at groups such as the NRA. I am not
a
member of the NRA. I am not a hunter. I do not even own a gun. I am not
here
to represent or defend the NRA - because I don't believe that they are
responsible for my daughter's death. Therefore I do not believe that
they
need to be defended. If I believed they had anything to do with Rachel's
murder I would be their strongest opponent.

I am here today to declare that Columbine was not just a tragedy -- it
was a
spiritual event that should be forcing us to look at where the real
blame
lies! Much of the blame lies here in this room. Much of the blame lies
behind the pointing fingers of the accusers themselves. I wrote a poem
just
four nights ago that expresses my feelings best.


Your laws ignore our deepest needs,
Your words are empty air.
You've stripped away our heritage,
You've outlawed simple prayer.
Now gunshots fill our classrooms,
And precious children die.
You seek for answers everywhere,
And ask the question "Why?"
You regulate restrictive laws,
Through legislative creed.
And yet you fail to understand,
That God is what we need!



"Men and women are three-part beings. We all consist of body, mind, and
spirit. When we refuse to acknowledge a third part of our make-up, we
create
a void that allows evil, prejudice, and hatred to rush in and wreak
havoc.
Spiritual presences were present within our educational
systems for most of our nation's history. Many of our major colleges
began
as theological semin aries. This is a historical fact. What has happened
to
us as a nation? We have refused to honor God, and in so doing, we open
the
doors to hatred and violence. And when something as terrible as
Columbine's
tragedy occurs -- politicians immediately look for a scapegoat such as
the
NRA. They immediately seek to pass more restrictive laws that contribute
to
erode away our personal and private liberties. We do not need more
restrictive laws. Eric and Dylan would not have been stopped by metal
detectors. No amount of gun laws can stop someone who spends months
planning
this type of massacre. The real villain lies within our own hearts.

"As my son Craig lay under that table in the school library and saw his
two
friends murdered before his very eyes, he did not hesitate to pray in
school. I defy any law or politician to deny him that right! I challenge
every young person in America , and around the world, to realize that on
April 20, 1999, at Columbine High Schoolprayer was brought back to our
schools. Do not let the many prayers offered by those students be in
vain.
Dare to move into the new millennium with a sacred disregard for
legislation
that violates your God-given right to communicate with Him.

Dylan Kiebold was raised Lutheran.

What on god’s green earth does religion have to do with the Columbine
Shootings?

I see no mention of religion in the above post. I do see mention of God
and prayer. I see that you feel that any mention of God or prayer
automatically makes a person a religious fanatic in your eyes.

I went to Columbine , let just say it sucked real bad in 1977 too . On
my very first day of school there , I knew nobody , I had moved from the
east coast , I saw my little redheaded neighbor being shoved into a
trashcan by a few big jocks . They said help us shove this freshman in
the trash , I replied , I am a freshman why dont you try to shove me in
there . Ever since then , the football team would pick on me . They
ganged up and beat the **** out of me , I remeber getting punched out by
4 or 5 of them and going to woodshop all bloody . The shop teacher told
me to keep my mouth shut or it would be worse . I started to fight back
, one at a time . Soon I could take it no longer and left school and
went to automotive school at acc . The staff of the school was a joke
then , After leaving school and working a ****ty job , could you believe
I lived across the street from the school narc . He had parties with
drugs he took from kids , and then partied w the girls of school .Right
across the street , What a Joke . I could go on and on about the 1 and a
half years I spent there . I am supprized it took so long for something
like Eric and Dylan did to happen.

In what way was there any refusal to honor God?

The shooters were raised by religions that supposedly honor God.

Unless you’re saying that those particular religions don’t honor God?

The two shooters in Columbine picked Christians as their targets. They
would ask "Do you believe in God" anyone who answered "yes" was shot.
So whoever raised them as Christians did a lousy job.

No problem here. I'm merely asked what the Columbine shootings have to
do with religion, or honoring God.

The shooters were raised with religions that supposedly honor God, yet
that didn’t seem to have much of an affect on them.

So where’s the connection between the religions and the shootings? We
shouldn’t raise our children to be Catholic or Lutheran? Is that the
point?

I’m just asking.

I posted this as a tribute to those children....

since we don't have a NRA section their named in there too!!

I thought so too and I was just fixing to ask catch.
Is that the girls father that the guy put the gun to her head and said
if she would denounce God he'd let her live
and in response she said no and started to pray so he shot her?

That is the very girl. I remember that as if it was yesterday.

This post both broke and did my heart good. This Father is a good man
with good ententions.

What the heck does this mans statement have to do with religion??! What
does it matter anyway? If you don' tbelieve in it. Then please let us,
those that do, have our belief.
Abra, you spend waaay too much time chasing down believers in God, to
just try and tell us your beliefs. We know your beliefs. But, this
thread was posted here in honor of this man and his family with his
thoughts.
Is it your entention that he cannot say what is in his heart, without
someone coming back and chastising him for it? This is his story Abra.

You say you believe in (god)and spirit. Is this putting forth good
spirit?
I'm sorry Abra, but it just seems that you cannot let some have their
God time without you trying to put a negative sway on things? If you
can't see how this feels to many as well as the man that is the
author....well, anyway. You could choose to let it be for a moment.
It is not my entention to anger anyone, but it just feels wrong to do

Maybe authorities in school systems would more easily have recognized a
serious threat was afoot if they'd spend more of their time paying
attention to the signs of psychological problems in these type kids,
instead of focusing on the fact some girl gave a Midol to another girl
or that some guy pulled out a pocketknife to clean his fingernails.

Oh, and I can't say that ending prayer in schools has done any good,
that's for sure.

Or maybe they would put religion back in schools a little would have
sunk in to Jason whatever his name was, and co.
