Don't pump gas on May 15th...in April 1997, there was a "gas out"
conducted nationwide in protest of gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped
30 cents a gallon overnight.

On May 15th 2007, we ask that all internet members not go to a gas
station in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in
a lot of places.

There are 9,000,000+ American members currently on all the internet
networks, and the average car takes about 20 to 30 dollars to fill up.

If all internet user members did not go to the pump on the 15th, it
would take $2,700,000,000.00 (that's BILLION) out of the oil

companies pockets for just one day, so please do not go to the gas
station on May 15th and lets try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil
industry for at least one day.

If you agree (which I cant see why you wouldn't) repost this bulletin
repost it with "Don't pump gas on May 15th"!!

anyhow how will it actually hurt them you will use whatever amount of
gas you will use no mattter when you pump it, to make a difference you
will need to cut back your consumption along with everyone else. If you
go through 30 gallons a week and do not pump gas on a certain day you
are still going to use 30 gallons that week you will just pump it the
day before or the day after or so on.

My daughter in law asked me to do that about a month ago. I found it
ironic, because her husband, my son, works for Conoco Phillips.

Really, if you think about it: if we would all just stop driving one day
a month, think of how much gas would be saved and about how much good we
would do for our eco system. Two fold. It wouldn't be just about
lowering gas prices but helping ourselves and our loved ones future.

I would take the bus to work.... but I would have to ask the bus line to
start at 5am instead of 6am.... not sure they would do that for me
*S*...

I do use the bus system on the weekend when I go around with the kids
shopping and going to the movies. Its fun watching people and wondering
about them.

we don't have city transit here...no bike lanes, either.

gah...the only way this protest will do a bit of good is if everyone
actually cuts BACK on consumption.

er...sheila had an interesting idea, though...what if we all boycott ONE
COMPANY? you know...nobody buy from exxon, or texaco, or bp...or
whatever? what effect will THAT have?

why, thanks, lulu...i dont know..i was just thinking it might urge the
competition to lower its prices, thereby forcing everyone to do so, but
I don't know that it has any literal plausibility. first of all, i doubt
enough people would do it. Inconvenience, you know.

Secondly, even if they did, it wouldn't last very long ...the gas and
oil companies know we have to run on fuel so we're in a position to
where there's not a lot we can do but be at their mercy..BUT...if we did
that, AND (or) we also left our cars at home and rode city
buses/taxis/bicycles/carpooled, maybe that'd make a little bit of a
difference.

I hate it when the consumer is forced into a position of sucking up.

BellSouth/ATT's "motto" used to be (s/have been), "Don't like our
service? Tough Shi*. We're the Phone Company."

But now, with VoIP technology, they're not quite so arrogant anymore.

I know this for a fact. About a year ago I dropped ATT/Bellsouth
completely because they wouldn't offer me standalone DSL.

A few months after I dropped their service, I got this really beautiful
pale pink card with burgundy embossed roses on the front in the mail
that said, "We're sorry you said 'goodbye.' Maybe we didn't say 'We
Care' enough. Please come back to us. We promise we'll be good to you."

I've never gotten a love letter from the phone company. I still have it
and will cherish it always.

Of course, at 50% off the BellSouth rates, I'm still with my new love,
Vonage.

hehe:tongue:

It would be very difficult for me not to drive my car to work, I would
arrive late everywhere or simply not get there... we could stop our cars
on a Sunday... get lots of movies for a long day at home. I won't pump
gas on May 15th... at least, if we don't show up at the gas stations, we
would be sending a message. huh
I'll set my cell for a reminder!!!
