I had someone tell me 'it must be rough raising a child in a broken home'
Excuse me?? My family isn't "broken" Just because I'm not with her father does not mean we are "broken". Actually, we would be far more broken had we stayed together. Broken implies something that needs to be fixed. We are not broken. OK... I'm done with my tangent now. |

Yeah .... Broken home implies something very bad is going on. Calling a family broken just because there is'nt two parents is just a bad use of grammar.

If it's not broken don't even try and fix it! $&;@ to those people!

Sounds like the guy chose the wrong words..I don't think he meant harm or I don't think he meant it negatively.

It's filled with love and happiness. |

sorry for one persons stupidity. there are stupid people everywhere. but look beyond it and raise your child the way you see fit. me and my ex know we didnt belong together and our children are just fine. better to be divorced and friends then married and hate one another.

I can understand her vent we as single mothers can be a little sensitive to the broken family words as if it was implying we should have stayed in our bad relationship which would have only hurt the children more...

Sounds like the guy chose the wrong words..I don't think he meant harm or I don't think he meant it negatively. Leaning toward that too. 'broken home' is idiomatic and is more representative of the parents having broken up. It really is a bad choice of words today, but I don't think it was meant to imply that your family is broken. |

If I remember right, what was broken is no longer there, right? So problem solved. I was raised by my mother all of my childhood, and had a broken step-father from about 4 1/2 to 12. The family was much less broken without him. |

She probably grown up in a traditional family way and probably she was taught the way of husband/wife must stay together..nothing wrong with that and that's what most of us want..but anyway..poor choice of words. |
