Very much so. After i was abused, I became a police officer to try and help others. It was very healing for me to teach others how to be safe and get help.

I think the words I never let stray from my mind are the ones my grandfather told me when I was about 5 years old. Begin as you are going to continue, never let someone make you believe you are not special.


I also grew up in a very chaotic home, I thank God each and every day for my grandparents. I don't think I would be the person I am today with out them.

My grandmother used to tell me that when one door closed another one opened. That stuck with me and today when I am facing a big change I see it as an opportunity for some positive change.

My x husband holding my little boy...telling him is mother is a no good lier. To this day I tell my son "no matter what anyone ever says about me I love you!".

Thanks... I just lost my grandfather in December and yes I miss him alot. I sometimes am amazed at all the cliches that they both hand fed me and well dang it they work most of the time. Now my parents are the reason I went into Psychology. I wanted to know what made people like that tick

Some of you saying some extremely horrible things happened to you..I can't believe how evil some people can be. It makes me feel like my childhood was a cakewalk to many of you, even though I grown up in poverty.

I got a very simple one. My grandfather used to tell me "Don't worry about anything " - even when there was something very difficult or something bad happened.

Even today, when I'm in a tough situation, I imagine him standing there and telling me , and I suddenly I feel recharged and ready.

My mother use to tell me "You won't live to be 21" WOW I am ???? (we won't go there) but I made it....

my first bf.. we were together for almost 4 years.. when he was leaving i was doing the desperate girl crying thing that 19 yr olds will do sometimes.. told him i love him.. he looked at me.. laughed.. and said.. ":love you?? i'm suposed to love you? i could never love you.. have never loved you! NO ONE WILL EVER love you."
i still hear those words in my head..

and my abusive ex.. as he was pulling the trigger to the loaded gun that was pointed at my head.. "i cant have you.. noone can"

When I embarked on a non-traditional program to get my RN, I called the state board of nursing and asked about it.
She said "we get hundreds of calls about this, but only 1-2 people finish"- I Did.
When I was in the middle of it struggling, my mom would say
"If it was easy everyone would be doing it".-I did it.

My father telling me... nobody will ever want you..

as I read this thread I wondered if there really was anything in my life that I could say. But there just isn't even though I grew up in the bad neighborhoods. I had parents and grandparents who loved me. and made sure I grew up to be different.. I thank them in my heart all the time. I guess I was blessed and feel for those who had it so much harder then I did.

Mine were when me and the wife divorced ...my two kids saying dad will we see you again............
