never started any of that mainly because I had cancer when I was 5 never was given a reason for how I got a brain tumor at the age of 5 but after going through that a such a young age it makes you thing twice about things like that.

I was 22 when I stopped drinking heavily. It was a novelty but I saw it potentially becoming a problem. Now I just drink at weddings and occasions as such.

Im not a quitter....Smoke when at work...Drink when i get home....Neither has bothered the bills

Smoked through junior high and high school. Quit the day I graduated. Never picked it back up.

I stopped using any sort of alcohol/drugs about a month after my 22nd birthday.

Partly because I saw what it was doing to people around me, people I cared for. I was never a big user myself, anyway, but I was involved in music for a long time, and the stuff just always seemed to be around. I dabbled. For the most part, I didn't really enjoy it when I did use it, so it was no problem to quit.

The other factor was some research I did into what alcohol/drugs do the the human brain and body. I decided I didn't want it around me anymore.

I've never smoked a cigarette in my life, but it doesn't bother me when people smoke around me.

addictions keep you stuck,.they keep you from facing real issues that need your attention,..

after smoking I had to give up drinkin cause the two go so well together,..

addictions can KILL you,..

Life was hard enough without choosing to make more strikes against myself.

VERY TRUE and they can destroy relationships and tear families apart!

I quit smoking 1997...cold turkey!

What really helped me(and may help others)is when I decided to quit...I still had 3 Salem's in my pack.

I made a vow to myself, that if I put another cigarette between my lips, that would be my agreement to accept/take-back either one of my 2 Ex's!!!

It's not easy...but with that commitment I made...It was a hell of lot easier! Haven't had a cigarette since!

how many people do you know who are in Al Alon or AA or suffered from abuse of anykind,.incest,.verbal,.physical,..all stems from the disease of ALCOHOL,..

I dont do (illegal)drugs, dont drink often,but have quit smoking cigs a few times but always seem to start back

Hey Mirror...maybe use the theory I did...find something you hate so much, and use it as a crutch somehow. Just an idea!

I have been smoke free since Feb 17, 2008 when I was admitted to the hospital. I started smoking when I was 16. I don't remember the withdrawal from nicotine since I was in a medicated coma until April 2008. I still get the urge for a cigarette but since I have COPD one cigarette would put me in the grave within a week. I am not ready to die so no smoking for me.

quit smoking about 5 years ago nerver did drugs still have a drink once in a while

Still smoke them cigs.
Alcohol and dope(weed, pills, etc.) quit in fall 1981
Drank myself out of a marriage, college(it was paid for)
21 jobs in 7 yrs., a night in jail, 2 in detox.
Was having a drink in a bar, and I knew if I didn't leave, that minute, I would be sucked into a black hole. (Not another black out, those didn't scare me)

quite when i was 22 drugs cig. alc. started smoking pot when i was 13 come from a busted home ONLY BY THE GRACE OF GOD

quit smoking 33 years ago, had blood clots in my lungs from a motorcycle accident . After I got out of the hospital I could not even put a cigerette in my mouth with out puking my guts out.

drinking about 83. tired of the hangovers not knowing how I got home.. always afraid I might of hurt someone. from driving drunk.
