I love taking the kids to the pet store. It's much cheeper than going to the zoo. It keeps them entertained for an hour or so.

I take them to the zoo on the day veterans get in free, and pack a lunch, soo it only costs me getting them a toy at the end of the day. Good Idea though. And I cant believe you didnt say you like turtlesnoway

laugh I know - that was a good setup and I dropped the ball. laugh

Ahh gotcha.

I'm so sorry. Make them wait in the car next time! laugh

See, with wallyworld I can do the "We go straight to the film section and get the pictures, grab a container of milk, and we LEAVE. laugh "

The pet store is not so easy. I had a fish 'cus of that, and now I have TWO cats. noway noway noway

You have way more self control at wallyworld than I do. But I did good at the pet store. But I might get some fish. They have this tank that goes in a corner and would fit perfectly in this corner that I havnt figured what to put there yet. Just not sure what kind of fish.

If you're gonna get fishies for the kids...I'd reccoment goldfish...they come in a lot of varieties now...they're inexpensive...& easy to replace...tears

the big pet fad now is "glofish"

they combined genes from a glow coral in to zebrafish to create fish that glow in the dark

I have a pet store owner friend who told me it's just dye they inject & the effect is only temporary...??? How could coral DNA be compatible with fish DNA?

I dunno. I just saw it on the news yesterday. Apparantly they are worried about em getting loose and breeding glowing killer catfish or something

here's the story

Hmmm...interesting article...but I'm still not convinced that it's not all just hype. I mean...coral & fish are in two completly different phylums, aren't they? Like splicing genetic material from a snail with a turtle...??? I'll be interested in seeing how this one plays out...thanks for the info.

Eww...goldfish. They might be inexpensive, but they tend to require a lot more maintenance. They are dirty fish.

In general, hobbyists suggest you start with a 20 gallon, and non-live bearing tropical fish, as the bigger tanks and these fish tend to be easier to maintain.

I am partial to neon tetras (schools of 6 or more) myself, and they are easy fish to keep, and colorful enough to be interesting.

I'm with your kids on this one though. I love pet stores. If I go in for some kitty shampoo, I'm going to spend at least an hour looking at all the critters, and going "I want one!"

Ok I took my girls to te pet store to get shampoo to give our cats a bath(I know what the heck was I thinking). Well after looking at some of the pets they have, I now need to get fish, a lizzard, a parrot, a white mouse, and a turtle. And I thought going to the toy stroe was bad.

You are way too easy!! Go back to the toy store it is safer...
Oh and btw cats bath themselves daily with their own tounge...
