I just bought some cheaper steaks at the store. I want to spice them up somehow and keep them tender. What is the best way to do this? Should I pound them with a fork like my gram used to do?

Aha......thank you! I was thinking of trying the salt thing and searing each side and then putting them in the oven with a marinade. Maybe I'll try the gravy....sounds good!
The cheap cuts always come out way too chewy when I just bake them. |

I cook mine in oven with cream of mushroom soup and french onion sometimes.also

Lawry's seasoning salt works for tenderizing and it has some flavor. Then I'll add a little mrs dash to it.

My Mom usually only buys really cheap steak. I have learned how to get it tender, flavorful and juicy. I marinate the steak in a ziploc for atleast 6hours w/lemon pepper, seasoned salt, fresh ground black pepper, unseasoned meat tenderizer, worcestsire sauce and a teaspoon of liquid smoke. Take the steak out and lay it on the counter atleast 1 hour before cooking. I use a cast iron skillet w/a little olive oil. Get the pan sizzlin hot and throw the steak in. Usually 3 minutes on each side according to thickness. If you like your steak well done cook it longer but usually the longer it cooks the tougher itll get.

FOR THE TENDEREST STEAKS ......
cook them slow and flip them often every time they are turned the juices rise to the top \keep turnin them!!!!! |

I usually don't even have to do anything with mine to make it tender...just cook at 350 degrees for about 3 hours.
Put the steak in with a can of mushroom soup, salt, pepper and garlic. Mix a can of water with the mushroom soup, then you will have plenty of gravy with it. Yummy, very good!! |
