 Is it possible to love someone so much that you would give your own life for them without hesitation if it was necessary?

Very good question, Mirror.

I honestly can't say what would happen in any given situation.

Most people want to think they could, but they would never know unless they were faced with a situation like that and found out just how strong their own survival instinct is.

I don't believe it would be your own survival instinct that would be the issue. It is a matter of being able to sacrifice of yourself in order to protect or promote someone's interests instead of your own. This doesn't even have to be a life threatening incident to be tough for some people. ~shrugs~

I think when u truly love someone, ur instinct is to protect them. If a dangerous situation arose, im sure most of us would instinctively protect them without time to think about ourselves.

Perhaps. But, can you say, with 100% certainty, that you would put yourself into a situation where you KNOW you would lose your own life, but save another??

Like I said...many people would like to think so. But I don't think anyone can be 100% certain they would.

If it's someone's children, then I would say yes. But the question didn't specify children. I answered the question in the way it was asked.

@ Pink Lady

That's not necessarily true. The survival instinct in humans does not leave time for any kind of thought. Whether a person wants to think so or not, their first reaction is almost always going to be to protect themselves. The thinking would come in ( although it would be a VERY short thought process ) when they realize that they want to protect the other person first.

Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.

Well if my son/boyfriend/family member and maybe even friend was walking ahead of me on the road, and a car came and they didnt see...im pretty certain my first instinct would be to run over and push them out the way.

Love is selfless, not selfish imo.
