Why are some of my matches shaded yellow in my list and some white?

The yellow ones are the ones you haven't viewed or written to off that screen. Even if you write or view them they may stay yellows for a bit, the site may take a few to update them to the normal view, mingle has a few bugs in it! LOL

I'm still baffled by this whole mutual match bizness. OK, as far as I know, mutual matches are the fellow minglers whom you have clicked YES or MAYBE on and who have also clicked YES or MAYBE on you. So why is it that when I contacted a couple of these mutual matches of mine, they seemed to be so uninterested? Are we to chalk this off to yet another mingle2 bug?

Judging by the fact that you've been an active mingler for almost two years now and you have yet to solve the mutual match mystery, then I guess this means I must send my inquiry to somebody in charge... Perhaps a moderator could be of assistance here? I know what! I'll post a totally inappropriate picture here, that usually gets their attention quick...! I'M KIDDING, I'M KIDDING!

That is not a bug, MahanMahan, at least as far as we know. It's possible that those on the other end went through Mutual Match and reconsidered on some of their choices, were not taking it seriously, etcetera.
