Topic: What's up with VAGUE profiles? | |
---|---|
Okay so I'm browsing people on this site...see a cute guy...click on the profile and end up learning NOTHING about them. UGH! First impressions are everything - and that doesn't mean just your picture.
At least tell me if you're married or not. Come on! If you put 'no answer' for marital status...I'm assuming you're married and I move on. These vague or 'no answers' are quite annoying. They tell me that you are either shy, lazy, or hiding something. Which are all qualities that I don't quite desire in a man. So can anyone tell me why?? guys do this... Am I right? Or is there a more harmless reason behind this? |

It's the internet? It's a free dating site? Those are just 2 guesses as to why you're finding these things.

So can anyone tell me why?? guys do this... Am I right? Or is there a more harmless reason behind this? I don't look at too many guys' profiles, but I can tell you that mine is 1482 pages long. Most of the women's profiles I look at -- here and on other sites -- break down this way: 22% are completely empty 21% say "I don't know what to write here" as the entire profile 17% say "Anything you want to know you'll have to ask" as the entire profile 15% say "I'm laid back and easy going" as the entire profile [Disclaimer: Numbers made up randomly for greater effect. Real numbers may be different] The reality is that about 97% of the profiles I've read simply aren't worth wasting the 4.2 seconds it takes to read them. I don't know if it's just because people are lazy, or can't write well, or what it is -- but I do find it sad that so many completely miss this opportunity to let the world know something about them.... Because I'm certainly not going to be interested in someone who can't do any better than "I don't know what to write here".... |

Arent these people making your life easier? You dont have to speak to them once and you already know that you dont want to converse with them. Welcome to the world of online dating. |

Personally I prefer not to read a guy's entire life story on his profile page...I have ADHD and usually need a cigarette after the first paragraph. I usually get sidetracked on my way downstairs by anything from the phone to a particularly interestingly shaped dust bunny and by the time I get back on the computer I've forgotten all about it and start surfing the net for cool stuff to buy instead. Besides, only people from Nigeria have elaborate profiles.

]LOL....and mine....needless to say...can't keep my mouth shut. I did TRY to read yours Lex...I think I am nearly half way through I added some more to it this morning! You know the part that bugs me? I found out that my profile is so long now that when I add stuff to the top, I'm losing other stuff from the bottom. So it turns out there IS a limit on how much can go in there! It's disappointing. I'm thinking about asking admin to get another server for my profile. |

THX Lex! For an answer worth reading :-) The other people who replied to my topic were simply adding to my annoyance and wasting my time.
You're funny and totally right. I really don't understand people's logic sometimes. I don't wanna have to email someone just to find out if they smoke cigs, drink, or what they like to do in their freetime... I just want everyone out there to know that if you are one of those with a vague profile... Do you really want people to be annoyed and turned off by your profile, simply b/c of lack of information? Coz I'm sure I'm not the only one! |

Besides, only people from Nigeria have elaborate profiles. Haha, I am very easily distractable as well... But I didn't mean elaborate and long. I just meant answer the questions and give a small paragraph for the description. At least something, anything of substance! |

Aaah...but see, isn't that kind of like meeting people in the "real world"? I mean I can't remember the last time I went to a bar where everybody was wearing signs with their age, status, height, weight, smoking preferences, sexual orientation and the likes around their necks. That would be a wee bit too easy, don't you think? I mean dating isn't like going to the grocery store and picking up a hunk of meat that's neatly labeled. |

Coz I'm sure I'm not the only one! The problem is that people don't seem to CARE that their profiles are complete wastes of time. I mean, look, this is a WRITTEN MEDIUM. How are we supposed to make an impression, get noticed here, let people get a glimpse of who and what we are? Words are all we have.... And I'll be the first to admit that what a person posts in the FORUMS will carry a whole lot more weight with me than what's in a profile. But not everybody posts in the forums. So -- here's your profile, here's an opportunity to say something about yourself, to come across as interesting and fun and smart and totally worth getting to know....! But they can't be bothered.... Well, guess what? It's not my problem. MY profile is covered. And yes, it's long and rambling and half of it sounds like it was written by a narcoleptic hamster, but there is STUFF IN IT. And people who want to get an idea of who I am will get it from my profile. Turns out I DO know what to write here....! |

Ok, first of all - I would never go to a bar to meet guys. Unless I wanted a one-night stand. Second of all, Online dating is nothing like real-world dating. It's SUPPOSED to be easier! You are supposed to give enuf info to get a glimpse into your life. I'm new to it - but I like the fact that I can weed people out easily & quickly. That's why I'm here! |
