When you first meet someone online and decide to chat, what are the things you talk about? What about the next few times you talk? Just curious how many of you are right to the point with what you are looking for and how many of you prefer to keep it at small talk for awhile (movies, favorite foods, silly stuff).

It depends on the person, their interests and what things we have in common. I wouldn't think the first conversation would be the same for everyone.

I agree. I hate being asked a bunch of questions, and I don't like asking them either. I like to converse the same way I would in person .. casual chat. Kid around, be easy going.

Nothing 'planned' .. in fact if a guy does that to a degree, I'm already losing interest. Just let it flow yanno smokin

i usually begin with some nice ray of sunshine talk. i then proceed to ask questions such as, how many bottle caps fit inside a bottle.

and if they ask me what size bottle, i then tell them i would rather not talk anymore.

Small talk, casual stuff, things both are interested in.

People who start to grill me on what I want, what I'm looking for, and eventually sexual things, in the first few conversations really bother me.

To desperate, to intense, and then seem to think I'm a prude if I don't want to discuss those things with a perfect stranger.

This actually freaks me out. I have been a mental health counselor for over 20 years and I am trained to listen and sometimes find it hard to talk without sounding like I am analyzing someone. So I also need good topics.

Well one guy wrote and said we had everyhing in comon on our profiles.... After reading it the ONLY thing we had in comon was our dislexia and mispellings...frustrated
The line about how he worked soooo well with his hands and FINGERS made me want to hurl and the rest is history......
But on the upside.. easy conversations with some really nice guys......

I'm not a fan of the interview style conversation. And if someone tells me to ask them questions, I'll usually refuse. I'm not here to sit and ask someone questions about themselves the entire time.

I also dislike that awkward feeling. The funny thing is that with some people there is that awkwardness and with others there isn't. I guess it depends on you are talking to and if your conversation styles go well together.

Some questions are okay just not sexual ones at the first few convos. At some point questions have to be asked or how else do you get to know the answers. That is the teacher in me. No question should ever go unasked. How else are we to learn.

Questions are fine. But, some people just want someone to sit there and ask them question after question. Or, they'll ask question after question. Never getting into talking about anything. That's what I'm talking about when I mentioned "interview style" conversation.

On the first talk I always try to adjust to what she wants to talk about since I am open to everything.

On the next couple of times depending if I see that she is interested in more than friendship then I'm honest about who I am and what I am looking for, I hate surprises so I tell all sometimes to much I have been told but that's who I am.
