....let's talk about simple things. Drinking hot chocolate on a cold day. 
|

Laying in the cool grass and clover, watching clouds and describing what it looked like to each other. Then guessing.
Barefoot all summer, running the streets like a wild pack, until long after dark. Playing Hide-and-go-Seek w/ that pack. The way my brother, Kevin, would protect me unfailingly, my hero.  Me and Kevin, taking long, long, endless hikes that turned into picnics and great adventures. My brother pumping me on his bike to the library, the smell of those books. Kevin, and I, up all night under the covers and telling one another long yarns we spun. Walking to school, and back. Playing forever and a day at/in the bayou on the way home. Long baths w/ my favourite books and music. All summer at the pool and beach, never dry. How summer went on forever. My new cigar box, full of my new supplies, the night before the new grade's first day of school. School, loved it always in all ways. Sunday night television w/ my family. All the critters that I nursed in my room, after all the boys would shoot them. My 1st clinic. Too many funerals in my yard. My Mom's birthday cakes and mashed potatoes. Oh, and her full-on, tactile octopus ways. It has been these 39 years now, since I experienced her physical presence ...  Cut it...  |
