Name brand shoes. Can't have my feet hurting....on them too much. Have to have the real Mr. Dew some things okay generic. Depends on what it is I guess.

I agree that some generics are pretty disappointing but most are the same so I figure why pay for expensive brand advertiseing.

I have found if I watch my favorite products websites,usually printed right on the lable, I can find pretty good discounts. And several of the coupon sites.

What worked really well for me was haveing my young teens collect coupons and the payoff for them was half of the value of the ones used was their allowance. Not only did we save a bundle on groceries over the year they learned about menu planning, prices, and became real savey shoppers. Because both knew the layout of their local stores it helped them get their first after school jobs.

When printing off coupons be sure and switch your printer over to black only ink.

Useing the coupons and codes on the back of reciepts adds up too.

I could NOT believe how unlike the "real" ones they were!

You know, I buy generic ibuprofen all the time, never had a problem. I mean, ibuprofen is ibuprofen, right? Who cares what color the label is?

And people always say stuff like "Well, the generic and the brand name are made in the same factory by the same people."

Uh....not the Pop-Tarts, they ain't.

I agree with lilith....deodorant must be name brand. I'm kind of particular about hair products too as I was raised in a household of cheapo stuff and it just isn't as good. Although lately I haven't been able to afford my 20 dollar can of hair spray, had to downgrade to a 10 $ can.

Some cleaning products must be name brand.
Lipton tea bags are the absolute best.

As far as clothing goes...I could never justify paying high dollar to wear something with their name on my azz...just to give them more free advertisement...

I will always try a generic version first...but will quickly switch back to name brand if it doesn't perform at least marginally as well...

And as far as Mac n cheese...sure the name brands taste better...but if I'm making Cheeseburger Mac (I DON'T buy Hamburger Helper), then I'll use the cheap crap cuz I doctor it up with shredded cheddar & bacon anyway...

I buy a little of both. There are a few things that I'd never skimp on.

toothpaste
shampoo
body wash (wal-greens sells White Rain for $1.00 anyway)
deodorant

Everything else, I just compare prices. The super Wal-Mart usually has some great prices.

I'm also a coupon clipper, but have found when choosing between comparable brands...a lot of the time, the generic is STILL less expensive...

then generic brands if they weren't produced in third world sweat shops...

then brand name stuff that there is no substitute for... ie vegemite

Clothing? Op shop..(second hand/antique or for the fabric) then recreate or resew what we want..

Brand name clothes? What for? most of them are made in China or India for pittance then shipped to us for obscene prices... the profits got to everyone but the makers.
