Why does it seem like a woman can't compliment a guy on something without seeming like she's "hitting" on him? Can't guys just take a compliment for what it is? Just a compliment...

cause guys are driven by raging hormones and EVERYTHING is seen in the context of "will it get me laid"

what should I do if I send them emails and they dont respond

My view on that is that most guys are insecure.
It is for the same reason that many straight guys will get very defensive when a gay guy gives them a compliment. I used to have this happen to me all the time. At some point, I grew out of it and can see a compliment as simply that. Advice to the shy guys: Compliments can get you everywhere in a social situation. Everyone loves to hear them regardless of their response. I talk to strangers constantly and always try to find something genuine and nice to say to / about them.. I meet a lot of kewl people that way. Just my $0.02 |

apparently I don't know the rules If I'm at a bar and I ask a guy that looks bored as hell I might him to do a shot with us (my group I'm with) and apparently in "guy code" that must mean I want to sleep with him. Or if I send someone an email complimenting them on something... then apparently I'm hitting on them.
One time I asked a guy in a bar to come join our group since he was standing alone the entire night ( I was there while my friends were playing in the band at the bar) and he looked me up and down and said "sorry, I'm just not looking for anything right now" I mean seriously... I thought I said "hey come have a drink at the bar with us" apparently that translates to "when are we getting married?" in guy code |

Often, it's just the woman being friendly. I can totally see why women here don't reply to everyone who writes to them because some take a response to mean interest. |

I just continue to compliment them and figure it is their problem if they don't know how to handle it.
I wrote to someone on another site about his forum post. That was it...He was like 20 years younger than me and so not my type. He sends me back this long email telling me that he isn't into cougars. I am thinking where the hell did that come from. I send one back to him telling him to get over himself that was never my intentions if I was inclined to go that route I would definately be looking for better eye candy than him.. |

It all depends on the vibe you send, with the complement,
Wait press the brakes, gotta investigate |

why can't we be friendly and give a compliment without thinking there's some other motive involved? If I'm really interested in you, I will make it clear. But I like to give compliments... without people looking at me like I'm trying to sleep with them.
