Topic: If you forget your cell phone at home, | |

I am lost without it. I would turn around and go back to get it. I have two daughters that depend on me and they need to be able to get a hold of me whenever they need to.

do you go back to get it, or do you realize it's not like an umbilical cord and no one here at Mingle is that important? If you are though, they'll call back! I absolutely hate it...I have to go back and get it since it is part the job. |

Does anybody remember the days when you got your ass in hot water, and you were told to "wait until your father got home!"? That's because Dad was working, and he didn't have time for frivolous nonsense, and he wasn't "available" to everyone every minute of the day. Dad dealt with personal and home issues when he got HOME.
Thirty years ago, we all got along just fine without them. Our lives continued, the world didn't stop revolving, and all issues still got resolved. Now, in this present-day world of fast-fast-fast, it's as though most people have a limb cut off if they are without their cell phone. Nobody has any patience anymore. |

Its a big part of my work because clients always call me for technical help. Usually just like..."HELP!" lol I leave it. They'll call back. 99% of the time, they only THINK its something critical and the longer they wait, the more desperate they become.
I should be using that for more than just appreciation...like $$$ but I don't. But I've only forgotten it a time or two. Dammit! |

I have patience, but I also have a 40 mile drive back and forth to work, and come home at midnight. I have been stuck on a deserted highway without a cell phone before and it was scary.
Not to mention, I can't get private calls on my work phone so if my girls need me, they can call......and let's not forget the fiancee who lives across the country. |

Instant everything these days. But I never got the "wait until your father gets home" bit. When he got home, I had already felt the wrath of the mom. My dad was the one trying to "talk her down" when he got home. lol Great life though. |

I'm pretty much expected to be available 24/7 for work. In corporate I.T., gone are the days when it could wait until morning. If it's broke, fix it now. If there's a question in China, they need an answer. And sadly, I would be stressed if I didn't have my blackberry strapped to me. It's an electronic leash, but I feel naked without it.

I don't give out my cell number since I really don't want to be bothered when I am out and about. It is manatory for work, I was one of the last hold outs when we switched from beepers. I will admit they are nice to have for traveling I dont' have to look for a pay telephone. I refuse to have the text messaging put on my phone. I figure if they want to talk to me then call me.. |

I usually leave it behind, but I don't have a land line anymore, and it is just so convenient to have a ph. anytime you want it.

Yeah, yeah...a friend tries this argument with me, but the reality is that THEN we answered our home phones (and actually HAD home phones.) I'm not a big phone-talker anyway, as a rule...so having it is for short, informational calls most of the time. And being linked to my kiddos when they need to get in touch. Given our mobile society (and family) that's nice. |
