I hate the DMV. I was there for over three hours with my twin so she could get her state ID. Computers kept being shut down and everything. I swear by the time we gave up and left we were family with everyone there. How are the DMV'S in your state?

People in Chicago don't talk to each other. We just sit and wait. Haha. Our DMV downtown is really spotty. Sometimes you're in and out, other times you're there for hours.

In a word, packed.
We DO have some kind of appointment bull-honkey, where you can call in and pre-arrange your time for your DMV bidness. Otherwise, you're pretty much screwed. |

the one nearby me wasnt too bad. it was probably because it was the lunch hour, so in and out under a half hour

Then again, the beard must've had something to do with things.

In NY...all you do is wait on lines, it's something that you have to get used to....even if you don't want to.........

Ours are split into the DMV and the independent tag agency, so you get your official BS done in another town, which is always packed, and then go buy your license, title, plate or sticker at the agency.
The DMV is always packed, but my brother and I know the folks at the little tag agency up the street (ironically, within walking distance) so well that they greet us by name. |

or go at 20 minute till closing. You'll see em busting ass to get out of there. They have to serve you if you are there in line before they close. |

just think about this, obama and his gang want to take over the banks, auto makers and health care, think that they'll be run any different than the dmv?

I grew up in Rhode Island. The DMV there is like lallapalooza! You get tickets, like at a parking deck... with a number and an estimated wait. There are two lines, one for licenses and one for registration and title stuff. There are locations only open certain days of the week... it is confusing.
People hang out and share snacks, sell tickets with shorter wait times... Oh, and when you get up to the counter, they ask you for very specific things. But nowhere is there a list of what items are considered acceptable for verification. When I last went when I lived there I brought a box of every document I could think of....plus I had my VIN screened at the police station (Tuesday mornings from 8-12 only, and a fee) beforehand. So then I only had to get my paperwork, go get my car inspected, then return AGAIN with my approved inspection sticker. I remember seeing people crying at the counter, saying they had taken so many days off work they'd been written up at work or scared they'd lose their jobs.... But now I live in Ohio... Never waited more than 10 minutes here. |

Ours isn't too bad if you don't go at the end of the month. Most of the stuff needed you can get done through the mail. However, I am taking my daughter the end of March for her written test. So I hope that doesn't take long and that she passes the darn thing.

Ours is well organized and we are usually seen in a timely manner.

A hundred or so years ago when I first got my license the workers were rude and surly and you needed to commit an entire day to the experience. Now the processing part is great. You are usually in and out inside of an hour no matter what you are doing. However, the workers are still rude and surly.

Here in MS it's not so bad. U go to the DMV for ur license and then the county tax office to get a new tag or license plate, car registration, etc. If u want a new car title u have to wait 6 weeks for it to come in the mail or u can go to the state tax office, which is in another town from me wait in line for a few and get one right then and there. Depending on what day and time u can get in and out of the DMV gettin ur license. Last time I went to renew I was in and out of there purty easy.

Patience is a virtue if you can't wait in line at the DMV how will you react in traffic for hours and hours.
I don't drive anymore but when I used to it was always long and lots of waiting. Gotta take advantage of the situation so just bring a book or flirt around. |
