I really wanted a burger today and King Kong's 13th street was near where I was going. I wanted a REAL burger. Not some sorry excuse for a burger from Burger King or McDonald's.

I stopped in and got a mushroom burger. I love mushroom burgers. I didn't see a mention of cheese, so imagine my surprise that there was cheese ruining my mushroom burger. And it wasn't even a half way good cheese. It was that nasty American cheese. The Spam of the cheese world. Okay that would be Velvetta. But even Velvetta is better that American cheese.

Not only that, the mushrooms were crappy canned mushrooms. I had to scrap off the mushroom and the cheese when I really wanted that mushroom burger. And it is difficult to completely scrap cheese of a burger.

The burger might have been made from good meat, and a lot of it, but the quality of the toppings they used was horrible and ruined it.

I won't be going back again. When people pay restaurant prices for a burger, they want something significantly better than the crappy stuff I got served.

I like many kinda of cheese. But rarely on meat. If I do happen to want a cheese burger, I would never get a mushroom burger. And a cheese burger should be made from Cheddar. Or, for a bit of a change, pepper jack.

American cheese is a processed cheese more like velveta or cheese whiz. It meets the 'legal' definition of cheese. If barely. Places like to use it because it melts easily. I don't care how easy it melts, it tastes nasty.

I quit eating beef..four years ago....and I still crave a good cheese burger.......When I can no longer stand it...... I get some fresh ground bison and cook one up......delicious !!!!

Cheddar cheese is processed the same way and actually cheddar cheese is put into American cheese as you call it. Pepper Jack is American cheese with the peppers added for garnishment and is not what makes it hot. Just a little different ingredients to each cheese.

I make cheese for a living and yes i do know this for a fact. But to each their own taste buds. tongue2
