Possessed. It refuses to start....then will start. Decides that the turn indicators won't work...then they do. Volume for the radio on the dash won't work one day...then does another day. The heater controls won't work...then they do. Think it needs an exorcism. ohwell

OK...

I know EXACTLY what is wrong with your car!

The problem is in the steering column electrical or at the main connector in the firewall. You can save yourself some money checking to see that the electrical connectors are tight.
It sounds like the real issue is the ignition switch itself.
If you have a lot of keys on your key chain you will damage the ignition switch over time.

If the car was used when you got it I think that it may have had some repair work done on it you were not told about.

If rats got in it you have chewed wires.

If you had a stereo "Professionally" installed then the installer screwed up your wiring harness. When I install stereos I use the existing wiring harness and use special interface connectors to hook up after market stereos into the cars electrical system. If there are a lot of splices attacking your stereo to the wiring someone did ya wrong!

My money is on it being just a loose connector. All you have to do is follow the wiring bundles under the hood and dash that you can see first and make sure they are pushed together fully. If you can't find it that way you need to take it to a person who specializes in auto electrical.

Check the fuse panel area for moisture.
I had the same problems with a car, and it went through the same symptoms, and there was moisture condensing inside the dash area, and sometimes it leaked down to the fuse panel. As the contacts dry and form goo prior to rust, it effects the behavior of electrical components.

That issue is different for direct-wire starters, because the contacts there are without fuses, going direct from the column/key to the battery and starter. If your vehicle is newer/different than that...well...good luck.

Oh this car is unique. Was built by Ford to be sold in Brazil. But Brazil raised the tariff so Ford brought the ship back to the states. Think it has a complex based upon the rejection it experienced.

That makes sense...the dry heat of the desert does play havoc with vehicles. Plastic does dry out and crack.

My car is a truck.

Mine was once upon a time. Actually is was more like a scooter with a bed on it. Had a 4 cylinder Ford Ranger. What a freaking joke of a vehicle.

It seems to me you have some wires that are seriously in need of being checked out. I would take it and have the wiring checked out if you could not check yourself. Seems that could in fact be kind of dangerous.noway
