I was wondering? I have been trying to read all that's included in the stimulas package. And I have come to wonder if it will work after all? Maybe we as Americans should just tighten our belts and ride this out? The damage is done and yes will continue for a while. But I see where they cut from the package any extended un employement benefits and so many other so called helpful things. Yet it grows by leaps and bounds. And you see things like millions to go to Guam to rebuild something there? This is just the tip of the ice berg so to speak... But lately I have the feeling of "the heck with it"..and just let the chips fall where they may? If Gm folds oh well. but then again I am cynical and can survive it. Maybe I don't think of others in this thought. Maybe that's wrong. But at what point do you get fed up with what's happening? so ...Stimulas or not?frustrated

The rich won't stay rich if we don't give them billions in tax dollars! Really, they are just politicians in the long run and rich people can pay millions towards a future re-election campaign.

The whole stimulus package thing is a sham. It was never meant to "stimulate" anything other than the wallets of those who are responsible for putting us in this economic mess.

Heck- most of the stimulus money isn't even going to banking interests here in the U.S. A good portion of it is actually going to foreign interests who are ticked off that they lost their money in the downturn. Unlike the rest of us, who left to deal with your instant insolvency from this recession, those foreign investors just HAVE to get their money back no matter what.

The only thing this "stimulus package" will do is send us down the road of economic ruin faster than if it wasn't passed at all.

This just more pork barrel on a gigantic scale. The charge card is out and the teenagers have control. It appears our Prez is releying on the teenagers in congress to spend it wisely. Fat chance.

The problem we have though, is that while everyone can see this bill for what it is, our fearless leaders are going to do what they want regardless of what we think. They know that come November '10 95% of them will be reelected no matter what they do.

Actually, 1/3 of the senate comes up for re-election every 2 years (6 year term) and the house is re-elected every 2 years (2 year term, obviously). If the democrats force everything through for the next two years, they've learned nothing from the Republican congress that ruled under W. They did just that and the country gave them the boot in 2006. I predict a sequel in 2010.

Obama was being smart on playing the moderate to prevent this from happening but unfortunately, He's taken a sharp left turn on this stimulus bill and his approval ratings have fallen slightly (now 65% according to Gallup from a high of 69%) while his disapproval ratings have risen (now 20% on a steady rise from 12%) the more emphasis he puts on this bill.

It seems the issue at hand is the issue I have: if there has to be a bill, it needs short term answers that have long-term results. So far, very little other than the tax cuts and credits will give any short-term results. The more people see in it, the less they like it. And the fact that the Senate is plumping it up further doesn't help.

It took the Bush administration 8 years to rack up 5 trillion in debt while fighting a war. Obama and his administration seem to not change any of that war stuff while tacking on almost a fifth of that number in just the first 1-2 years. If the overspending by the gov is the reason we're here with this weak economy (as many have claimed), then how is continuing that plan while dumping almost a trillion dollars into crap going to help?
