Statistics show that the majority of pollution from automobiles occurs on consumers' daily commute to and from work or dropping the kids off at school. Currently, more than 60% of Americans and Europeans are driving less than 50 miles (80km) on their daily commute. If this 60% of commuters would drive a plug-in hybrid like the Fisker Karma, we could see the fastest possible reduction both in oil consumption and emissions - all without sacrificing their daily driving habits. Additionally, plug-in hybrids have the potential to augment the planning of cleaner electrical power plants, ultimately producing a dramatic effect on our society and future generations.

those stats notwithstanding, I'm sure they're close to the mark..
but why is it that folks think that just because the energy is generated somewhere else, that it's less energy consumptive? electricity that comes out of the wall has to be generated somewhere. First law of thermodynamics, or the law of conservation of energy, means simply that it has to come from something.. coal, natural gas, nuclear, hydroelectric, whatever sends juice to that outlet is burning fuel of somekind or otherwise converting potential energy to kinetic energy or vice versa.. is it one of those 'out of sight, out of mind' things? That just because the car itself isn't burning gas that it's magically "green"? Just because you can hear or smell the impact, doesn't mean its not happening. besides, who can afford a $90k car?? |

One very lucky person
![]() The car is also equipped with solar panels on the roof for solar energy charges. Raider ![]() What do you drive? I'm waiting on my foreign car to die so I can buy a hybrid, if we all did our share, the results would be magnificent. ![]() |

not raining on anyone's parade, just asking a question..
if my question makes you re-evaluate the way you think about energy consumption, then all the better.. what I drive is strictly a concern of me and my insurance agent. the fact that I drive it less than 50 miles a week, well that really isn't the issue now, is it? the processes and materials that go into solar panel reads like a who's who of carcinogens and global warming offenders. but don't take my word for it. read for yourself: http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2009/01/not_so_green_solar_energy.html |

Runs 400 horses under the hood, you can switch from energy mode to full motor power... can you tell I kinda/maybe like cars ![]() As for asking what you drive, I apologize if I overstepped my bounds by asking on a public forum, didn't think much of it. |

no worries. It doesn't matter if people know what I drive. the inquisitive will find that one of my profile pics shows the truck I drive, I think.
I just didn't want to distract from the matter of importance, which is: are "green cars" really green? or are the environmental impacts just passed down the river? |

oh, it's a beautiful piece of machinery, no doubt.
the first extra 90k I get ahold of, I might just have to splurge..but it won't be because of it's gas mileage and the way I'd be likely to drive it, the electric motor would never kick in ![]() |
