What do you think about it? Does your company outsource? Do you think it's a good idea? Why? Do you think it's a bad idea? Why?

I rarely even outsource the machines that build my inventions. The larger machine I bought out of pocket because I didn't spend years out of pocket outsourcing, and in the end, it means not even China companies can compete.

Outsourcing is just a means for the corporate world to make more money on the backs of the people who put them in their positions in the first place- the employee.

The industry which I work has been almost completely decimated by outsourcing (thanks to Clinton-era legislative mistakes such as NAFTA), and I've seen a number of friends and co-workers lose their jobs and security thanks to upper-level greed.

Of course, we're now supposed to feel sympathy for these same business when they come begging for a bailout when it was THEY who started this ball rolling in the first place? Sounds like a raw deal to me...

The company I work for is big into outsourcing. I work with the team we outsource to quite a bit. What bothers me is that we are constantly retraining people on this team. We train the team, then some take that training and leave for a better job. Then we hire more people, train them again and the same happens. Over and over. While there are a few on the team who actually do a good job, most do not. Most constantly ask the same basic questions over and over. They don't get many concepts and can't think outside the box at all. The quality of work goes way down.

I just handed over more work today to this team. Leaving myself with much less work and wondering what will happen next.

Lower pay, more turnover...

Higher pay, people tend to stick it out..Just the facts.....

Bad. The benefits are, of course, for the company who does it. And it keeps our costs down.

But seriously, we need to support our own citizens, even if it costs us more in the end.

Kind of like not taking a raise so a colleague keeps their job. Same concept.

I think its wrong....ppl invest many yrs of time, energy and money in a country they have lived all their lives, and find themselves jobless and with no support.

Loyalty is a 2 way thing.

Heres a news story from the UK last week...

It just seems like a waste of resources that could be doing other things to constantly be retraining these teams because of such high turnover rate.

Most major corporations outsource many of their functions. I personally am not in favor of it because it takes jobs and tax dollars out of this country.

Corporations do it to remain on even ground with their competitors. It adds to the bottom line. An engineer in New Dehli is cheaper than one in Los Angeles but does the same work. Same holds true for blue collar jobs.

You may not like until a stock that you own is impacted.

The quality of work goes down from what I've seen. Perhaps that's not true everywhere.

It's corporate greed, plain and simple. Too many folks in this country in dire need of jobs. Need to look out for our own.

Marley you have a point about the bottom line and it's not always greed but keeping yourself competitive but when you see the big bosses getting millions of dollar bonuses you know they're lining their pockets with some...

Sing is correct that the level of work is NOT the same.. They do take the knowledge and go elsewhere leaving companies short... Not to mention it may SEEM like it's less but when customers refuse to deal with your outsourcing then you have unhappy customers. In India I find that the it is a culture of "entitlement", we pay loads of money just b/c someone is kind enough to work for us.. WTH is that??? But then again some of the greed that's spoken of corporations can also fall onto Union workers that have helped to run jobs out of the US...

It's not just our customers that don't want to deal with the outsourcing, it's internal people as well. Mostly our sales teams. They don't like it at all. So, we have unhappy sales and unhappy customers.
