I drive a Hyundai.
I filter water instead buying bottled water.
I use cfl bulbs.
I don't have a home phone.
I can usually get away with swimming for free then shower at the pool.
I turn down the heat and wear warmer clothes.

My mom lives alone too so we share a family plan for our cell phones and buy in bulk then split things up.

plastic shrink film on the windows actually saved me 10% on my heating bills Installation costs=$13. savings about $15 a month.. yeah cfl light bulbs everywhere. turn off hot water tank during no use periods.. I found out that the tank will stay warm for 3-4 days..lol so I turn it on about an hour prior to use.. saved 30 dollars a month in electricity... shopping wise like everyonre else get the best for my money cost wise. Yet every so often I get a whole NY strip steak loin . Cost is half my local store cuts it and packages each steak seperately for me instead of 8-9 dollars a pound it costs 3:75-4:75 a pound . look at the little stickers when you shop at stores they put the price per ounce on there Go by that.. works wonders... Oh I am retired......

Love the idea on the NY strips cuz I LUUUUUUUUUUV steak .. yummy love
after mentioning that I went to the local super duper as they call it and bought a whole loin strip and they again cut it into 1 inch steaks . I have 16 1 1/2 lb each NY strip steaks.. see what a forum will do to you? lol

What a great topic! HW is expensive, so yea! for keeping HW heater off, showering fast and/or at the gym/Y/fitness club to extent possible. Doing that during physical therapy tanked my gas bill. New hints:

#1 - Save electricity by drying your hair there too.

#2 - Walk / bike wherever possible can to save gas, tire rubber, servicing, wear/tear--carrying books and groceries is great exercise too.

#3 - If you've dumped cable, most community libraries have great books and movies, free.

#4 - tobacco users, quitting saves its own cost + healthcare $. Breaking a nicotine addiction is ROUGH, but you're tough and it's worth it. Average # tries to success is ~7, so stay strong!

You could also just quit the gym and save that $$ to shower and workout at home .. either one works eh?

I think smokers have no choice but to quit. I thank God I quit over 20 years ago. I could never support that habit now.

We have 5 apartments here on my hill and we share wireless internet. We each pay $15/month compared to each of us paying almost $60/month. It's also password protected so if a new person should move in, the only way they can get it is by paying the neighbor.

Plus a lot of times, we will carpool when making trips to the grocery store or needing things in town to save on gas.

We're all really good friends so we help each other out as much as possible.

I've replaced my light bulbs with the energy efficient ones. Make less trips when possible. Cut back on the fountain pops and started drinking bottled tea instead. However I did splurge on new furniture and I don't go without tanning but that my boyfriend pays for.

just be sure with that tanning you save $$ for the medical bills if you contract cancer
I have great insurance
