i shut off my internet that was 50 bucks a month! anyhow im piggybacking why pay for it? however both of your suggestions are good ones.. another option is to contact a nearby neighbor and offer to share the cost of net. if you live in an apartment you can get 3 or 4 homes together and split the cost between you, |

A very smart economist/financial manager once told me that the best way to save money is to save on the big stuff, and not worry too much on the small stuff. In more specific terms, you'll save more money by buying a cheaper car than buying cheaper groceries. I used the car as an exaggerated example, but a more technical explanation for this money saving method would be called a top down cut approach. That is, instead of trying to save on the smallest items first and then moving up to bigger items, start with the big items and then start cutting the small stuff (of course I'm not talking about essentials like your house, or your car if you need it for work). Believe it or not, it's actually a very common tendency in people to work from smaller to larger, in fact, some companies do this, i.e. they fire their low wage workers before thinking of possibly getting rid of inefficient but highly paid *expensive* upper/mid level management. I totally agree. And companies run it backwards ALL the time. Stupid is as stupid does eh? As to big .. ya, I am working at downsizing from my 5 bedr/4 bath to a 3bedr/2+ bath house .. now that one of my kids got married in Dec we do NOT need all this room, with only 2 kids left at home. Thanks for sharing that *big* tip |

as far as my garbage i had 1-2 grocery bags a week is all. i recycle. since recycling is free with garbage service and there is no limit, that was no big deal for the neighbor.

I haven't been driving around as much, which obviously saves gas. Not much gas, mind you, but I do save some.

plastic shrink film on the windows actually saved me 10% on my heating bills Installation costs=$13. savings about $15 a month.. yeah cfl light bulbs everywhere. turn off hot water tank during no use periods.. I found out that the tank will stay warm for 3-4 days..lol so I turn it on about an hour prior to use.. saved 30 dollars a month in electricity... shopping wise like everyonre else get the best for my money cost wise. Yet every so often I get a whole NY strip steak loin . Cost is half my local store cuts it and packages each steak seperately for me instead of 8-9 dollars a pound it costs 3:75-4:75 a pound . look at the little stickers when you shop at stores they put the price per ounce on there Go by that.. works wonders... Oh I am retired...... Love the idea on the NY strips cuz I LUUUUUUUUUUV steak .. yummy |

i have plans of what i'll do if i get laid off. until then it's business as usuall. It's good to think ahead. What's funny .. I have more $$ in the bank since my job was eliminated than I did working. Why? I'm not spending it. I can't complain. I'm in a very decent place right now, but glad I was forced to rework my mindset on spending .. yep yep. Just don't ask me to give up my Beamer. Ain't happenin. Not now, not later |

I shoot straight. So I have to tell ya .. she should be less selfish and not even invite you. That's so insensitive. Wow. |

Unplug appliances/equipment when not in use and are running just to keep a clock running....the microwave, VCRs, DVRs, radios, coffee pots. I didn't run my Christmas lights as long like I did most years in the past. Racks up an extra $50 a month on the electric. We still had them but were just more conservative of time they were on. It's actually kinda fun to think of ways to save. |

Years ago, when I was a single mom, I only made $11,000 per year. I survived quite well actually. I rented an 1 bedroom apartment....decided I didnt need a bedroom and gave the bedroom to my son. I bought a futon and slept in the living room. I bought cheaper cuts of meat, everything was no name brand, bought second hand clothing.
I lived off of my paycheques but saved all of my tips. I was then able to take all inclusive trips twice a year. Even though I make more money now....I still live quite frugally. People dont need to eat meat every single day. I eat it maybe twice per week. |

The avocado and swiss cheese was amazing .. yummy! I had never thought about not having meat as so much cheaper .. geesh .. GOOD TIMES!!! |
