Topic: I don't need glasses anymore... | |
---|---|
I used to need glasses to drive but suddenly my glasses became useless and I could see better without them. My eyesight seems to have gone from near sighted to far sighted, and now to read fine print, I do better with reading glasses or else I have to hold it further from my eyes. I've heard that this sometimes happens as we get older, but it seemed to happen very fast. I have not worn glasses for over a year now. Has this happened to anyone else here? |

I had Radial Keratotomy back in 1993 *when I was in college*, which is essentially the predecessor to LASIK. It cleared my (then) 20/70 vision right up, too- I've been at 20/20 ever since.
One of the things my eye doc told me about eyes is that they'll change shape as you get older. So it's possible that your vision might have corrected itself as your eyes started moving about. |

Has this happened to anyone else here? Not my eyes, my grays. There's less now, and it didn't fall out. Go figure. I've always been 20-15 in terms of vision. |

I know that as a kid I had to wear my glasses all the time. As I got older my vision was improving, to the point where they kept lowering my prescription. That was cool. But now, I have these contacts, and while I can see distance just fine, forget trying to thread a needle, have to remove them to see the minute stuff I work with. Now how does that one work???

its called presbyopia.
its a time in your life when your vision changes and your near vision decreases. you find yourself holding what you are reading, farther and farther from your face just to focus. it comes with age and effects everyone after 35 at a different time in their life. its time to have an eye exam and see if you need progressives. |

LOL Nope, these are the lenses they gave me on my last exam,(heck, I even went in and complained about it and got a different prescription) and yeah, they have been this way since day one. Don't think you can come down with an affliction like that in a half hour or less. |

i have a prescription for my nearsightedness but i refuse to wear my glasses because my eyes become dependent on them and then i can't see without them.
my prescription hasn't changed since i was 22 and i think it's because i won't wear my glasses |

It is very common to go from nearsighted to farsighted. It occurs when your brain grows and pushes against your eyeballs.

i love it when people come in and struggle with the idea of getting glasses or using them. i love my glasses. lol they help me see.
my rx was bad since day one and i've been wearing glasses since i was 6. its actually staunched the progression of my astigmatism. but working in my office for so long, i've learned something. just because you think everything was fine.. its not. 2 weeks ago i had a guy come in who's wife forced him to get an exam. it'd been at least 20 years. he said 'nothin's wrong with my eyes!' an was even grumpy to the techs. well.. we took an optomap (which is a retinal scan/digital picture of the inside of the eye and replaces dialation)and found the guy had a tumor in his brain attempting to connect to the optical nerve. we've obviously refered him to his PCP and a neurologist who can help.. but if he'd not come in.. and caught the tumor at such an early age.. what would have happened? |
