i have a problem, my daughter is sick with a "cold"(cough, runny nose
and she chokes when shes coughs) and a gastro (kind of like a stomach flu) and the docters say that giving antibiotics wont help, anyone got any ideals how i can help her out? |

sounds pretty standard. lots of fluids, given a few sips at a
time...watch for signs of dehydration (such as dry mouth, skin that holds indentations easily, etcetera) and any drastic changes. if she's vomiting with diarrhea, don't feed her until the vomiting stops, and then adopt the BRAT diet...bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast. once the vomiting is truly past...if the diarrhea is still there...go for the CRAM diet...cereal, rice, and milk which is better for stopping diarrhea. if feverish, keep her clothing to a minimum in a room that's at a comfortable temperature to you so that her temp bleeds off. do NOT sweat a fever. ibuprofen is an effective temperature reducer, and may be piggybacked with tylenol if necessary...alternating them. it's most likely a virus, and therefore antibiotics won't help...so you just treat the symptoms and keep her comfortable and hydrated. as with all medical advice, feel free to verify this with your pediatrician. |

depending on how old she is, for the cough you can grind up echinacea
plants and boil them, have her put a towel over her head and inhale the steam from the hot water. (it's not harmful at any age but as a 10 year old i hated it. it always helped though.) as for the tummy ache, caffeine free coke or mylanta :-D |

Humm a vaporizer in the room helps them to breath a little easier. Its
tough when they are little and they get sick . Makes us feel useless at times we feel for them knowing how hard it is for them to breath. Don't know how old she is but when mine was small and sick made them sleep with me in order to watch them closer . Hope she gets better soon seems to me they could give her something for the cough and to help her breath better. Anyway take care of her and hope she gets well soon |

Make sure she is not dehydrated.......Like everyone else said, lots of
fluids and try to get her to eat, even if it is a little. If she starts having frequent diarrhea, notify the doctor again. It could be a sign of something a little more serious than a cold. But with the weather changing, it doesn't surprise me that she might just have that, a cold. Good luck Hun! |
