Lincoln kept slaves? Amazing I didn't know that expecially amazing
because he was from Illinois a "Free State" do you possibly have him
confused with Jefferson who was from Virginia a "Slave State" and did
own slaves and father children with them? He also lived and served about
50 or so years earlier than Lincoln.

No I specifically remember reading about this whenI did a term paper for
school. Lincon had slaves that he eventually freed. And yes there were
also writings about him having sired children with some. I am sure he
is nt the only president that has done so, jefferson may well have also.
This information was in public books of authority (biographies and
such). Sorry I can't remember the specific title, lol but it was a
while ago. I remember the fact simply cause it was so surprising;
especially with his actions to illegalize slavery when in office.

1 SAN MARINO. UNECE.

The Most Serene Republic of San Marino (Italian: Serenissima Repubblica
di San Marino) is a country in the Apennine Mountains, completely
surrounded by Italy. One of the European microstates, San Marino is the
fifth-smallest sovereign state in the world both by area and by
population.[1] It has the smallest population of all the members of the
Council of Europe.

According to tradition, San Marino is the oldest constitutional republic
in the world still existing: it was founded in 301 A.D. by Marinus of
Rab, a Christian stonemason fleeing the religious persecution of Roman
Emperor Diocletian. San Marino has the oldest written constitution still
in effect, dating back to 1600

Actually, Lincoln was called "Honest Abe" the same way you would call a
tall friend "shorty" The term just stuck around over time, good 'ol
honest Abe was actually like a smooth talking car-salesman.

But your original question, you wanted "substantial" proof. In other
words, in what has historically been a partisan system that has always
used propaganda as a nomination tool, you want someone to conclusively
disprove the efforts of the most successful rumor mills to ever grace
our nation?

ohwell

However, if I were to attempt to do this, I would choose reliable F.D.R.

The only controversies that peppered his stellar career as our President
were grumblings over not pushing some anti-lynching legislation
(political maneuvering to make truly great strides in civil-rights for
many minority groups), and an unaggressive stance towards involvement in
World War II.

However, you can't please everybody, and the frame makers of our
government wisely cautioned us to avoid ALL involvement with foreign
powers. Their advice to "keeping our own house in order first" may be
ignored today; but that doesn't mean it is advice that SHOULD be
ignored.

So, FDR- no scandals, how can you call following the advice of our first
leaders scandalous?

Daniel, I remember from high school textbooks there being 'some kind' of
hypocrisy in Lincolns personal life on the slave issue, maybe it was the
fact that his wife's family owned slaves. And certainly there was a
purely strategic (vs moral) element to his emancipation decision. But I
don't think he owned slaves himself.

maybe it was wife instead of him, but I remember his family being
connected with the owning of slaves. And I also distinctly remember
about his bearing children with a slave girl.
