Do you change your hair often? Wear it up and down back and forth a lot?  Yeah... I used to wear my hair up a lot in a pontytail when it was long, and I changed the color from red to brown a lot. Hell, half the time I didn't notice if it was different.... How is the guy going to notice nuances like that? I mean we don't have enough information, maybe you shaved it bald and died your scalp pink, who knows? Once, an ex-gf knocked on my bedroom window, having bleached out her red hair, ghost white.
