I personally can't stand that incredibly lazy "ghetto-speak" that a lot of the hip hop dolts like to inflict on us. Instead of saying "all right!" they'll say "aiiiight!". Instead of saying stuff like "this" or "that", they'll say "dis" or "dat". They'll also make copious use of "you know what I'm sayin'!", as well, as if we'd ACTUALLY KNOW what they're saying. Leet-speak would come in at a very close second place, though. mos def............wtf...........wth............i am speakin nathan |

 i sympathize with this poster although what really grinds my gears is the use of the little smilely faces or whatever you call them...if you cant form your thoughts into at least a semi-readable sentence there may be no hope for you or society as we know it...be seeing you B  u................wtf is with be seeing you..............i dont want to see you thats why your on the internet..........

i sympathize with this poster although what really grinds my gears is the use of the little smilely faces or whatever you call them...if you cant form your thoughts into at least a semi-readable sentence there may be no hope for you or society as we know it...be seeing you I used to think the same thing. Now I understand that smileys are the equivalent of body language. Without tone of voice and body language it can be hard to express what you really mean in text. An easy example is sarcasm. A  or  at the end of a sentence can totally change its meaning.

I'm sure I'm not alone, yet no matter what you write it seems that people just use it regardless. The next time I see a profile with random "lols" inserted after every sentence (we'll call them sentences even though punctuation appears optional) I'm just going to scream. I feel the same. Though, lol doesn't bother me nearly as much as abbreviating every word in a sentence. |
