DENVER (Map, News) - Disgraced evangelical leader Ted Haggard's former church disclosed Friday that the gay sex scandal that caused his downfall extends to a young male church volunteer who reported having a sexual relationship with Haggard - a revelation that comes as Haggard tries to repair his public image.

Brady Boyd, who succeeded Haggard as senior pastor of the 10,000-member New Life Church in Colorado Springs, told The Associated Press that the man came forward to church officials in late 2006 shortly after a Denver male prostitute claimed to have had a three-year cash-for-sex relationship with Haggard.

Give me a break lady. So, if I decide to not be an atheist any more and convert to Christianity, then every "sin" I ever commit is going to already be forgiven, retroactive, because 2000 years ago Jesus died for the sins that I might be committing? Yay! Where do I sign up? This is awesome. You know, as an atheist, I believe in just being good, for goodness sake. Meaning, don't cause harm, pain, or misery on others. Be kind to others, live and let live. My conscious wouldn't let me dcommit any sins. But now, I think I would like to become a Christian. Now I can go commit whatever crime I want and I'm already forgiven.

By the way, the Muslim God offers 72 virgins in Heaven for people who convert to Islam... Can Jesus beat that? I want me a heram when I get up there passed those pearly gates!

OOOPPSS
OOOPS

SO sorry, I had two mingle windows open and plunked this post down in the wrong one. I'd meant to start a new thread.

If a mod sees this please move it? I cannot it seems, report my own post. I was going to report it and request it be moved. I am not sure just how to do that now.

I intended to put it in a thread titled Smut Free?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As talk continues here in the US about a smut free internet I have been watching what's going on in Australia as they deal with the issue as well.
The author of this piece makes some excellent points and I have included an exert from her article for you all to consider.
Would a smut free internet include Mingle2? Before you answer browse through the forums, profiles and user pictures. Surely there is content here that some parents would not want their children to access.
What about news sites? Are pictures of war zones too graphic for children and therefor blocked? What about forums carrying adult conversations with content unedited by mods? Sites that feature erotic stories written by adults for adults? Fashion sites with provocative clothing?
As the author points out...no reasonable adult thinks child porn is okay but who is the reasonable person blocking sites? What are their standards? By example my grandmother's standard of what is objectionable and my daughters are quite different.
I am aware that realistically no person or persons could do this but that instead a computer program scanning content would block sites. Past efforts to block sites with possible objectionable content have blocked sites that give information on breast cancer self screening and other health information.
Allowing the cable company or state, local or federal government or their computer programs to decide what is objectionable content scares me. I think it should scare everyone.
Any thoughts ladies and gentlemen?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Naturally, advocates for free speech are troubled and one might say their concerns have been answered with dogged piety. "If people equate freedom of speech with watching child pornography, then the Rudd Labor Government is going to disagree," Conroy said in 2007.

According to some, this particular ministerial blogger has been nothing short of bolshie. To those who fear their speech will be stifled, or their net access slowed, he has offered a stubborn response: if you're opposed to the department's cyber-safety plan, you are opposed to the protection of children.

His evangelical logic seems lost on many, and not only civil liberties groups who are unhappy with his Reverend Lovejoy decree. Much of the IT community is adamant the clean feed will slow our connectivity. Normally moderate thinkers are horrified that we're taking cultural cues from China and North Korea. Even some child protection workers gently suggest that federal attention and funds would be better disbursed elsewhere.

Nonetheless, it remains difficult to counter the won't-someone-think-of-the-children reasoning without being branded a perve. Upright people are trying, though. They've been loud and eloquent in their censure.

It's time for the less seemly to have their say. It's time for fans of Voltaire, and his civil biographer, Miss Hall, to defend to the death the tastes of people like me. It's time to ask: "Won't someone think of the porn fans?"

I enjoy pornography. Perhaps not quite so much as I enjoy living among citizens who take an entitlement to free speech for granted. But I do like it quite a lot. And it seems that my porn is endangered.

If Conroy's clean feed works, which some tech sceptics argue that it cannot, it will prevent access to all pornography. According to the interpretation of Electronic Frontiers Australia and other advocates, the clean feed will mean that garden-variety X-rated material may not be viewed online in Australian territory. Further, R18+ content will be prohibited. And MA15+ sites hosted in Australia will probably go as well. According to the communication authority's criteria, everything saucy must go.

This will certainly save many Australian adults thousands of hours. This will possibly save a handful of unsupervised minors from harm.

But not many. As a keen internet hobbyist, I can report that one doesn't simply amble into X-rated or even R18+ material. One must actively seek it. I have become adept at this; children, presumably, have not. And if they have, clearly they are the issue of the world's most reprehensible parents and should be sent to live with Hetty Johnston forthwith.

The usefulness of the World Wide Web is threatened by Conroy. I have found the medium terribly instructive. When I am lacking culinary inspiration, I will browse a recipe database. When my writing is misfiring, I catch up with The New Yorker. And when my boudoir has become as flavourless as my writing or my food, I go to a website that propriety will not permit me to divulge.

I am very grateful for the DIY stylings of my internet teachers. And I imagine many others are grateful for the inspiration that gushes from these amateur couplings as well.

Despite the best efforts of some, there is no evidence that pornography will negatively affect me or other consenting adults.

The only lasting effect of my access to porn is a reflex giggle when the pizza delivery man knocks on my door.

Oh...so what's your point? Someone fell into sin because of the bombardment of LIB speak all these years? Like seculars don't have their own hypocrisy to deal with?

It just goes to show how far people have sunk & why all people need Jesus.

Thanks for making the case. :smile:

OMG OMG OMG

Yes....HA HA HA

That's it!!

Liberal speak made a married man with children who preached, traveled, paid his bills, carried a bible around,and wore flag pins on his lapel seek and have multiple same sex affairs while condemning homosexuality and gay marriage was corrupted eh?

This is a guy who is...excuse the term a$$ deep in the church.

Liberal speak made him seek on going same sex affairs, pay a gay prostitute and buy drugs and engage in these activities repeatedly for years?

OMG OMG OMG Hats Off to Quickstepper for the funniest post of the year thus far!!

Talk about a complete avocation of personal responsibility! (Heard that phrase anywhere before?)

I am a victim not a perpetrator(Heard that phrase anywhere before?! (Heard that phrase anywhere before?)

Society made me do it! (Heard that phrase anywhere before?)

The sheer hypocrisy of it is astounding.

I could go on...but I won't...I am still laughing too hard to type.

Remember folks...as you observe those, especially on these boards who profess to have found Jesus, the really wonderful things sharing your life with Christ can do. Just look at how they embrace the Holy Spirit and share that with the world around them...HA HA HA

Yeah...gotta wonder just what God thinks of his son dying on the cross for people who act against scripture repeatedly then fall back on that whole forgiveness thing...

For me?

Instead I would rather act thoughtfully, responsibly, decently, intelligently....

Just a thought but...

Oh never mind...

"It wasn't at all a settlement to make him be quiet or not tell his story," Boyd said. "Our desire was to help him. Here was a young man who wanted to get on with his life. We considered it more compassionate assistance - certainly not hush money. I know what's what everyone will want to say because that's the most salacious thing to say, but that's not at all what it was."

Oh please!!! Our desire was to help him..certainly not hush money whoa

I don't get HBO so I won't see his documentary, not doubt showing how he has repented, or maybe he will do a flip and actually talk about how he should not have been a bloody coward and should have told the truth about himself a long time ago. Either way, now it's not about reputation it's about money, honey.

As a gay person, he makes me sick!

He's not making the big church bucks anymore so now he will do documentarys and talk shows. He's as spinless as his church figures.

I love it when cowards and liars like Haggard make millions of dollars.

Sorry for the Rant!!!
