I thought Rob Zombie's Halloween was pretty good. It filled in a lot of gaps from the original one. It actually introduced you to Michael Myers before he was "MICHAEL MYERS". That said, it was your typical horror movie for the most part. Teenage chicks screaming and running around half-naked being chased by some psychopath. I LOVE his House of 1,000 Corpses franchise and I hope he continues it somehow, like a prequel maybe.

The original Halloween didn't have gaps, nothing needed to be filled. Some films work because things aren't overly explained. All Zombie succeeded at was giving Michael Meyers a needless background, a "white trash" background at that. Michael was no longer "The Shape", but a big hulking Billy Bob Bodean redneck who makes paper masks. The whole mysteriousness of the original was gone. But, that seems to be the problem with many of the new remakes- they seem to have to beat information over the head of the audience.

i have yet to see a horror remake that has been excellent

I think the 70's Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Carpenter's The Thing, and the 80's version of The Fly were excellent remakes.

I would like to see a new Psycho on one condition- that it be a closer adaptation of the book than Hitchcock's(which is excellent by the way), people who haven't read the book would be surprised at the changes made.

Mmmhhh...
The Friday the 13th remake was good!!
I really liked it alot.
I also liked the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
...and Rob Zombie's remake of Halloween was just AWESOME. ;)

I wish they would remake Demons, by Dario Argento and Lamberto Bava..
It came out in like 1985, but it was sooo rad. If you haven't watched it you should..

I like old 80's Horror movies tho...before all the modern CGI.
Where the actors spent hours in hair and make-up, although a lot of it looked fake but it was just soo creepy.
The bad acting and big bush sexscenes in those 80's Horror flicks- Priceless..ha ha

If done right Demons could be a fun modern update. Though I think part of why Demons works today is because it's so 80's- from the fashion to the soundtrack.

What would truly be scary is a good Ed Gein movie. Can't beat true stories, adds so much to the creep factor.

There have been at least two already made that I know of, and they both suckled. Completely off-the-mark, much of the storyline was fabricated, and just basically a waste of time and film, considering the fact that it's a VERY true story, and there's so much factual information to draw from (I am a Wisconsinite -- Ed Gein's stomping ground is about 70 miles away from where I live).

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (the original) is supposed to be loosely based on Ed Gein, although I have no idea where they got that idea from.

Tobe Hooper as a child had cousins who lived in Wisconsin, they would tell him stories about Gein. So when writing the script for The Texas Chainsaw Massacre he drew inspiration from those stories. It was never meant as a factual account of Gein, same as when Robert Block wrote Psycho.
The 'Based On A True Story' was just a gimmick to get people to see the movie. The funny thing is there are people out there that believe it was based on an actual cannibal family living in Texas. Gunnar Hansen who played Leatherface in the original even talks about on the DVD commentary that he met someone who claimed they shared a jail cell with the real Leatherface.
