I don't think he's releasing them. just changing their status to be POW's, consistent with the Geneva Convention

why not for the people that love glitz and happy feelings..........put on a big show about trying to close the prison (without a plan)

and in the year that you got to research the imaginary plan and see what happens...if no good ideas jump out atcha........

give a big glitzy speech and discuss the idea of NOT closing the prison and instead allowing the UN to ensure that torture and human rights are not bveing violated at the prison.

i mean what they hey....either way you tried, right??

You should read the articles. Not just glance at the headlines..

Obama froze the trials. He has gathered together retired military officers.
(The ones who quit or were fired because they wouldnt agree with Bush's ideas.)

They will make recommendations to him how he should go about closing the facility.
It may take a year.

Most held are entitled to POW status, a lot are innocent and have never been charged. The 10 - 20 left who are hard-core terrorists can either be charged legally and held in Fed Penitentiaries, or in my mind, sent to live in Israel where they will be amongst their own kind.
Heck, who knows one day they may become an Israeli PM. Like Sharon, Begin, or Shamir.

If all else fails, they can be sent to Crawford where Bush can watch them!!laugh laugh

Again you lost this election because "your" own party lost its "true" conservative base...I'm not too sure I agree with that...I don't think ANY Republican could have won this election cycle...and...if the party lost it's base...well..." a fish rots...from the head down "...McCain...was a middle of the road Republican...
Who voted him in? If they would have stuck to their parties principles and put Ron Paul on the ballot things probably would have been dam close!!! But he went against the repubicans in power today!!

I voted for Mitt Romney in the primary...I believe the problem with the Republican party is that it's drifting to far to the left !...the perfect blueprint for winning landslides is Ronald Reagan...less spending...lower taxes...strong military, and individuals not government making their lives better...

I heard this today on the radio.

Senator Kit Bond, Missouri (my state) said that he doesn't want Gitmo in Missouri - Ft. Leonard wood.

He said that San Francisco is raising a big stink about Gitmo so they can have the terrorists and put them in Alcatrez.

i think what the problems that barrack obama's allies will face, is actualy saying, "no we cannot accept these personnel into our country" because who wants to be the first nation to say no to Mr Nice. i think the reason behind Obamas (pardon my spelling if its incorrect)is that he sees Guantanamo as a major major issue/obstacle so im not suprised in the slightest as to why he is pressing with them so soon into the job.

Britain has already took 3 or 4 prisoners from Guantanamo due to relations or connections to the uk. i think if obama did approach us i wouldn't like to see Gordon brown roll over for him and accept what hes offering easily. but would like to see us helping america out once again to further our relation if it can be furthered any further.

Criminals? laugh Trials?

They are terrorist POWs. They are all obviously guilty.
Their crime is waging war against the US - that is,
trying to kill as many americans as possible during
terrorist warfare...

It is nonsense to talk about trying or
rehabilitation of these people. They need to
be monitored permanently

Alcatraz huh?

I like it. And in San Francisco they'll get exposed to some REAL cultural diversity

our counties, don't get much of a say about what goes on regarding issues like that quiet, i certainly haven't heard a leading official come out and saying anything publicly before.

truth of the matter is they need to go somewhere, why not just bury them so know body knows where they are.

*edit*

So....
This is what you think of soldiers...
Your definition could just as well be applied to soldiers from every nation on earth.
