I broke my right foot jumping up and down in excitement; I have bruises underneath my arms from the crutches; And I have cuts on my arms from running into walls because I don't know how to use the crutches.

Thank GOD I upgraded to a boot cast! Whoever invented it was a mere genius!!!

Be sure to wear a safety helmet. I know I do.

Yeah,...everyone tells me that I should. Clumsy me !!!

I wish I would have done it on a "ninja flip". At least that sounds more exciting than how I hurt myself. Hope you heal up fast !

I was breaking a horse when he threw me. I landed in the back of my truck so hard it released the e-brake, rolling down the hill towards the road. The truck rammed into the ditch, flipping me over the cab, right in front of an oncoming car. I moved pretty quick but, not quick enough to keep my little toe from getting run over.

It could be worse

I missed this the first time. What bones in your foot were broken?

You'd be surprised by how helpful I can be in this area.

The exact terminology is "a tiny cortical avulsion at the lateral aspect of the cuboid".....WHATEVER,...my terminology is "it HURTS !"

oh,...of the 5th metatarsal

That's not too bad. The good news is that from heel strike to push off in your gait, you hardly apply anything other than a stablizing force on your 5th metatarsal. The good news is that you didn't damage any of the 13 bones of your midtarsal joints, or you surely would have had restrictions of movement in your gait, and possibly pain from midstance to pushoff. Gait consists of heel strike, middle standing (midstance) to pushing off from your metatarsal pad. You will likely apply more force on the first metatarsal to compensate at first. I doubt it will be a problem for long.

If your podiatrist prescribes a pair of orthotics for you, there's a good chance that the product is the result of one of my inventions.

Oh, the cuboid. That may be a little more damaging than I originally thought. If you follow the highest point of the medial (inside edge) of your arch to the highest point lateral (outside edge) side, the damage is at or around the outside edge. You will likely have some restriction of range of motion in your foot because of this, at least for a short time. It all depends on how drastic the damage is. The cuboid is part of the midtarsal joints. That it is "tiny", however is promising. Hopefully no tendons were damaged in the process. You may well be prescribed foot orthotics as a result of this damage.

Tomorrow my I'll be getting a new machine that I'll be adapting to make orthotics as well as my other inventions. As Marion is relatively close (2 hours each way, roughly), I'd be happy to make a set for you when the machine is up. From the sound of things, you'll likely be in a cast for at least a few weeks.
