Why do people take the time to sign up for a singles website to meet people yet they will not post at least 1 picture of themselves?

I dont know about you all but that tells me they are either hiding something (already in a relationship or married) or they are butt ugly. no offense to anyone, this is just what I have gathered from my experiences with online dating over the past 5 years. Anymore I tend to totally ignore those who dont have pics & 1/2 of the time those who only post 1 pics as well. Also, those who will not smile in their pics come across as unhappy people (not my type)....but I have found most of the time they dont smile because they have very bad teeth . They always say, "well I can email you a pic"....sorry, I will not give my email (or yahoo IM) to just anyone (learned that lesson long ago).

damn well I guess some of us are ugly but I try not to dwell on the fact that i am ugly

everyone has a different idea of what they find attractive, you cant define ugly. I was mearly refering to my personal past expereinces & as I said, I was not trying to offend.

i'm sorry i took offense; i guess the post just came across as condescending to me.

i've a photo posted now, but there are many reasons why i pull it, none of them being the reasons you indicated.

when i first created a profile, i wanted to be contacted for what i said and how i felt, rather than what i looked like, so i didn't have a photo for a long time. i learned, quickly, that profiles with pictures get much more email.

however, i take it down periodically. mostly, it's when i get rude, sexual email from married men looking to get laid. i hate imagining about what they are doing with my picture.

Well I haven't been out here on the internet scene as long as you have, yet I have only met 3 people totally that weren't who they said they were and I have met so many male and female that are exactly who they say they are. I also have found that the majority of people that "Don't" have a picture up have some very good reasons. I for one didn't add my picture for 3 months and it sure didn't stop the interest of dates from happening. I remember one man that was absolutely drop dead gorgeous that never put up a picture yet was more than happy to do a webcam session with me.
I personally would have no problem on NO pictures on a dating site that way you get to know the person a bit first, go off site and Webcam.

BTW what exactly defines ugly... I am stumped by that since I don't think I have ever met any one that was down and out physically ugly. I have met many people that were flat ugly to the bone personality wise. I am curious which way were you referring to.

Hell, even I hate to think what they're doing with your picture! But, one thing you don't need to worry about is your looks. You're very attractive. Excuse me, while I print off your picture.

I spent 2 years in a realtionship with someone I met online who lived 3000 miles away. He didnt have a picture posted & the pics he sent to me were older pics. When we met I was not really attracted to him but I convinced myself that it was the person he was on the inside that mattered. I am sorry but a physical attraction IS important (& personality makes a person even more attractive to me....or less attractive). BUT, after he moved across the country & I discovered that he was NOT the person he portrayed himself to be (& then he layed his hands on my child), that was the end. This is just ONE of many experiences I have had.

But on the other side of the spectrum, I did go out with one who I felt was the best looking person I was ever asked out by....till I got to know him. Its about the entire package, not just looks... but when you are online scanning thru profiles, pics are an important part. Thats all I am saying.
