how long do ya'll think maternity leave should be???

depends on the situation. I hated leaving my baby when I had to go back to work but financially I had to go.
If you don't have to go back right away, or if the baby has health problems, I think you should stay home as long as you need.

At least the standard acceptable 6 weeks. And there's this thing now called Paternity Leave for those fathers that want to be home to help with the new lil one. I think that's an absolutely wonderful thing!

and the do let new dads take time off also....its called family leave of absence....and your obgyn would sign papers for the dad also...due to parental bonding and stuff.

With my first child I did the 6 week thing. She is very independent and outspoken and stands up and speaks out for what she wants/needs. My second child I didn't go back to work until she was in kindergarten. She is so attached to me still and she is 16. She checks to make sure everything is okay with me or gets upset if she thinks she is going to hurt someones feelings. She has had a lot of health issues. This may be the reason she is the way she is but the first one did a lot better after the 6 weeks thing the second couldn't even find a baby sitter for a night out with the hubby because she cried for me the entire evening. I even got called out of a theater once because she hadn't stop crying for 2 1/2 hours.

I have been lucky enough to be afforded a lot of time with my children..I must say I have never encountered that problem with any of my children....they are thrilled when I come home....but they are also comfortable with me being away

i'm toying with the idea of no paid maternity leave at all, at least not any that is funded by the tax payers.

if you want to have children, you should ensure that you are able to tend to their needs, emotionally and financially, without having to expect a free handout.

just a thought.

Personally, I'd want to have a "stay at home mom" that chooses to work or not as she wishes.......

i agree

however outdated, old-fashioned, and anti-feminist it sounds, i think the best place for a woman is at home raising her children.

however, i don't think that it should be funded for by the government in order to achieve it.
