Topic: Enlistment Bounuses? | |

Does anyone know what will happen once Obama takes office.. That it's under presidental control... Had a sargent tell me they would dissapear the 31st of this month.. I took it as him blowing smoke up my rear... They think everyone is dumb lol and I hate it.. With 2 wars going on and them needing people you'd think that they would need to keep those...... Does anyone know anything about enlistment bonuses?

the economic times seems like it's leaving no other option for people - but don't give in - if you have already then resign

They offer bonuses based on what jobs they need to be filled. The bigger the bonus the more that specific job is needed, and so on.
If you allready signed up and have enlisted it should be in your contract. If you havnt enlisted be careful the recruiter could just be saying that to get you to enlist rite away to fill his quota. |

That's what I figured. I'm planning on going 11B-infantry. They always need people lol |

Right now the military is considered oversized for the plans of the future administration ... i.e. removal of froces from some hot zones. Army Ground Thumpers are needed true but they are a dime a dozen and easily replaced by Marine detachments. Might want to look into another MOS based on your scores. 89D (believe thats the army version of EoD- Marines is 2356) might be a good one for you to look into- ALWAYS a signing bonus and a reenlistment bonus. Also unlike the Marines, Army 89D go straight into it, in the Marines had to wait till i hit E-5 to start my formal training. Important Sidenote- if you scare easily look somewhere else. Nothing like playing with things that go boom to wake you up in the morning. You only get to make one mistake in that MoS. |

the bonus programs is as stated to fill certain jobs that are critical.... BUT.. I have to ask why go into something that won't do a damn thing for you after 4 years in the armed forces be smart pick a filed that you quailfy for and and can use later..... or another branch and by all means see it typed in on your contract if its not there don't sign... I say this as a former recruiter... I never lied to anyone just to fill a quota.. and always said the military is like a bed of roses... this much beuty and way to many thorns......and never never trust anyone but yourself.

Hmm Like I said hopin to retire out can always change my MOS after my first few years. |

Army_strong you are correct in questioning what your recruiter tells you... They are not suppose to lie to get you to sign, but a few have been know to stretch the truth sometimes. With that said the quickest way to find out is to call a different recruiting office and ask. You choice of 11B is interesting... as a former 11B and still a soldier after 24 years... there is no other MOS that has the comradely or cohesion (well not in the Army) being a grunt is the cloest thing you will find to being a marine. Having spent my entire career in the Army and can honesty say that there is no tighter group than the Marines. If you are truely from MI, then 11B is also a good choice. MI has alot of 11B reserve/guard positions. If you are looking for bonus $ call a guard recruiter and ask about active 1st program. I think the signing bonus is up to 60K. There is merit to taking a MOS that offers a career after military, but any job in army offers leadership and self discipline required by todays employers, not to mention you get military points/preference on civil servant jobs like police/fire. And there is always the college fund to get a degree afterwards. If you are interested in college I would recommend going for a ROTC scholarship before you enlist. it's a lot to think about and a large choice in life, but in the end only you can make it.. dont let others pressure you too much and take your time and think it through... Good Luck..

haha no not scared easily. And, things that go boom could be fun.. Hmm Like I said hopin to retire out can always change my MOS after my first few years. Lol they tell you that but truth of the matter is once trained into your MOS usually won't change it until reelistment. Also only if it has an opening. Only thing you can trust is what Duck said: if it's in writing on the contract. Best of luck. |

I got a $2,000 enlist bonus back in the 80's
91-A Field Medic, then 4 yrs later 91-D Operating Room Specialist. Paid $1000. after Basic Training and AIT. Then the last $1000. after 2 more yrs. When I got to my unit one of the folks screwed up and it was late by about six months. As it turns out that was pretty typical of our unit. Sgt Mckay,Sgt.Ritter and Sgt Hussong, who was the NCOIC (In Charge)ran the Admin. Our paperwork got screwed up to the point they called that office the "Hussong Triangle" Paperwork was submitted but would mysteriously disapper. Better yet, orders would would show up, but they didn't know about them untill the last minute. Yeah well you might think differently after a few years about being a "lifer" get some training that you can use when/if you get out. Good Luck. |

I would negotiate for something much higher than what they offer. Business is business.
