I just got in from a rum tasting session at a rumba dancing festival. I
reckon I got a rum deal, 'cos Steff had stashed all of the available rum
in her stomach

In 1862 Bacardi purchased a tin roofed factory building in which he
planned to start a distillery. In the roof of the building lived a
family of fruit bats, considered to be a good luck omen in Cuban
mythology.

And then when he was ready to start selling Bacardi Rum, it was his wife
who suggested using the bat logo because it was easily recognizable. And
since many of their customers were illiterate, it would be easier for
them to pick out the bottle that contained, "el ron de murcielagos", the
rum of the bats.

To this day, the official logo of the Barcardi Company bears the
likeness of a fruit bat in flight.
