Do you find when the weather is this cold that people tend to be a bit cranky? Cranky, who is cranky, you talking to me! For sure! For the past twenty-five years, until recently I have been involved with some sort of snow removal this time of year. People change when they are all couped up, has something to due with the amount of sunlight / vitamin D. I have to get out more so I don't become one of them! It may be too late!( I said it first) I get out everyday what's the big deal! I still cranky when someones wants to wait on them hand and foot. Don't think so!!!

I don't know who is around. I thought I'd write a note. I didn't get to go to the basketball game last night as the school took off for inclement weather. I decided to go to a movie and saw "Marley and Me" The movie was good, not great. It got to be quite a tearful thing at the end when the old dog was dying. It made me think about our last dog. He had a stroke at the age of 11 and needed to be put to sleep. Man, that is a tough decision to make, and, it's something that has had to be done before with other pets. My husband's mother is dying of cancer and has just held on for a little more than a week, now. Both situations made me think about that point when which I am so ill, it will just be a waiting game for my family. I was ill with something like food poisoning last week, and had I have known I wasn't going to get better, I would have wanted a medication to slowly drift off in a rather quick manner. I wonder if I will be able to make that decision in 20 or so years from now. Sorry for the maudlin thoughts.

None of us want to suffer. We probably all wish that when our time comes we could just drift off in our sleep (although I know of one person who prefers a more exciting exit ). It's simply not up to us. There were a couple of times in my life when I thought I wasn't going to make it, but apparently there is still something else i'm supposed to do on this earth, so I keep looking for it. As for making decisions for yourself there is always the advance directive approach. I've thought about it, just haven't gone there yet.

All four of my daughters know my wishes as does my husband. One of our nephews is a critical care RN, and he was telling us that if we have made one to put it on top of the refrigerator as that is where the paramedics will look for it first if they come to your house. Ok, now I am going to change the subject. I have seen previews of some movies I would like to see, others, "No way!" It cost me $8.00 to go in the evening, $4.00 before 6:00PM, and on Wednesdays $3.00 with popcorn for us older folks.

I just don't want my kids to have to make that choice.

Have spent the last 3 nights caring for a 52 year old man who was watching the football game last Sunday and was brain dead by Wednesday. Have attempted to console his grieving family who finally made the choice yesterday to make him a DNR and donate his organs. Spent last night preparing him for organ donation, seeing his heartbroken and grieving wife, children and siblings. Advance Directives are a must (in my opinion) at any age.

hi July I am so sorry to hear this. The family must be in total shock and they are very lucky to have you there to help them. I hope you are doing ok too.
