Thinking of taking the kiddo on a cruise in March for spring break? Any suggestions? We'll leave out of Galveston or New Orleans (since I'm in Houston). Tips, pointers? Don't go???

Thanks,
Karen

Depends on how old your child is. If they are under the age of 21 I would recommend a Disney cruise so it is catered more to stuff they will do. If they are over 21 take a carnival cruise to Grande Caymen and Cozumel. In Cozumel go horse back riding through the Mayan ruins. You will love it!

I loved my Alaskan cruise and I took my then-14- year-old daughter. But, while at sea, it could get a bit boring as there was gambling and bingo. Not much for young ones, (nor me as I don't gamble and bingo gets old). There was a pool on board and a few other functions, but it was COLD!!! We LOVED when we got to stop in the different cities, though, and watching the animals in the ocean and viewing the landscapes was wonderful.

My parents took my daughter on an Alaskan cruise (on the Norwegian Pearl) last August & she loved it (she is still talking about it). She was 13, almost 14 at the time.

My 1st cruise was on the QE2 from NY to London back in the 80's (I think I was 15 at the time). In the 90's I did a cruise out of Miami to Key West & Mexico... & another one out of Aruba to the West Indies.

Been on 2 with my son, he was 10 and 11, one Carnival and one Royal Carribean. They both have excellent kid programs so if they're "joiners" trust me, they won't be bored in the slightest. In my opinion, it's one of the best travel bargains out there. Spring break, though, is likely to be very crowded but you'll get that anywhere. Just remember, you need a passport and if you don't have them, they can take a while so apply soon or put off the cruise til summer.

I had to witness a weekly ritual that took place at the hotel I was staying at when I was in Panama some years ago. Every Wednesday, around noon, a rather large group of elderly (I'm talking octogenarians here) people coming off of a cruise ship docked at the local harbor would stop by and check out the gift shop. It was almost like the hotel was instantly transformed into a retirement home there was so many people.

I started nicknaming the hotel the "Melia Shady Acres" ("Melia" is the name of a chain of hotels in Central/South America). I also started calling the rush of blue-hairs making their tourism rounds the "grey tsunami", because that's pretty much what is was- a tsunami of grey-haired old folks.

I LOVE crusing!! I've only had the TIME for 3 SOOOOO far.. but MAN.. it's the GREATEST..

yer "HOTEL" takes you to see SOOO many wonderful places...

I returned about a month ago from 3 weeks in Europe.. 2 week Mediterrainean Cruise.. saw 6 countries in 3 weeks!! AND took my 18 & 14 year old.. we ALL had a BLAST!!!!!!!

NCL lines is VERY cool.. they have what's called FREE STYLE CRUISING!! wow.. amazing!!

I've done the Caribbean twice (East AND west) on the Commadore Cruise line.. that was small and quaint.. but prefer THAT to the Carnival ones!!

also on NCL they have special 'places' for kids AND teens.. each their own.. keeps them busy MOST times.. and if they're OLDER they can always join in the 'Jewerly demos' which is basically 20-30 mins on different gems and stones PLUS you get chances to WIN stuff!! both my girls and I won beautiful gold and pearl bracelets!!

then there's the ART Auctions for those seeking culture of a different sort!! you can find LOTS of awesome stuff to do on NCL!!

as a matter of fact... I'm looking NOW to book yet anOTHER cruise/trip in the next 6 months!!
not sure I'd take the girls this time though.. ohwell
