Why do dogs love to stick their heads out of car windows?

Because they are about to fart & they don't want to smell it

So they can "smell", I think. Once they smell a person, they remember that smell for life.

Well you will probably receive an onslaught of humorous responses now but the truth of the matter is related directly to smell. Dogs use smell in much the way that humans utilize sight.

OMG, that makes so much sense!

Dogs make no sense. They love to stick their heads out of the window of a moving vehicle, yet they hate it when you blow in their face.

To a dog, the sensations of the wind sweeping by at 40 miles per hour and some two-legged primate blowing the smells of last night’s dinner in the direction of her hyper-sensitive nose are not even remotely in the same category.

Compare your breath, even at its nicest, to the glorious smell-o-rama that is available to the dog who sticks her nose out the window of a moving car. For comparison, you might consider it the canine equivalent of our looking out the window of a high-speed train dashing through the loveliest part of the French countryside. While blowing in her face … well … that’s like looking out a window into an air shaft with some trash cans at the bottom.

To get the smell of their owner's breath out of their nostrils?

You dont really require an answer to that question do you?

They're not actually smelling. That's where dogs keep their ID cards.

they do it so they dont have to smell the person they are ridding with.
