It's all in getting the suction to do the right thing at the right time. I've never heard of a broken one.

get hot water running through the tap (to make it easier) fill a bowl with the hot water try to clean out the bulby thing..make sure you can see the water run clean when you squirt it out.. then try again on your baby...Johnson's and Johnson's mentholated bath helps....at least temporarily..or any warm bath

Try laying the baby on her back. She can't move as much that way. It also frees your hands to hold her down and suction.

Set her on your lap, lay one leg over hers, wrap one arm around her back and hold one arm with it, while the other is pinned to your side. Use the arm around her to help hold her head. I have 3 girls and I had to use that thing a lot. Sometimes you just have to experiment with the best way to hold her down. Also a little saline solution will help loosen it up a little. And last but not least, a little triaminic always worked with my girls, with a little Vicks vapor cream on her chest, will do wonders!! Good luck!

how long has the runny nose been going on? If a long time it could be allergies to something, like pets, ect...! If it is just a cold and you are sure, just keep on with the suction bulb! also try they make a vapor bath for infants it works like charm. and if airways sound constricted get a cool mist vaporizor!!
