I start at 20%

it either goes up or down depending on the servers attention to detail...I do not penalize the wait staff if the kitchen is the problem...

Usually yes. It depends on the service. I have had some rude waiters/waitresses.

I actually had to walk up to the ice water/tea pitcher and refill it myself a couple times.

That's pretty bad.

Depends on the waiter/waitress, but I usually give at least 15% and go up from there if they really did a good job.

My brother in law is a terrible tipper, I hate going out with him and my sister, we wind up in an argument over it. They typically wind up paying for my dinner (which is great), but then I tell him that I WILL handle the tip.

I feel if you don't have the money to give a good tip after a meal, then you dont need to go out to eat.

Yes, I tip well. Been in the business for over 10 years.

Did someone say waitress?

Or is it a waiter?

Yes. I use to bartend and waitress. Depending on where I am going and what I am eating/drinking is how I tip.

If I am out eating and have drinks too, I start around 20%, 15% for poor service.

If I am just drinking, $1 per bottled drink or shot, $3-$5 for mixed drinks.

And if I don't have money to tip, I don't go out to eat/drink.

If Tanyaa was my waitress, I would tip 100%

I tip at least 20% regardless of how much the bill is. I have left $20 tips for a $10 meal before.

Also, if your meal gets comp'ed by management for reasons other than bad service, I leave a tip that is as much as I would have paid for the entire meal.

I start at 20% too. I usually go to at least 25% if they were competant. I know how hard it can be working in a restaurant.

can you all please come into my work?!?! i had 2 tables that didnt tip at ALL today, and they do it every day they eat there. frown its just a bit sad. we only get paid minimum wage because of the fact that our "tops compensate for the lesser wages" even tho we have to split them with the cooks.
its sad. i ALWAYS over tip! if i cannot afford to tip i dont eat out.
