I'm glad I've been in the business for 30 years(self employ and contract)!

I am in school to get my A+ cert and I am comparing prices before I go out and start working for customers. I am thinking of just starting out with a temp agency and then possibly going into business for myself.
How do I start up my own computer repair service? |
|
|
|
I found a small shop locally owned that I do business with when I need something fixed that I cannot fix myself.
Taking computer stuff to the big chain places is abit like taking a car to a dealer for service. It's likely to be more expensive. |

Theres nothing wrong with my computer at the moment, but you can still come over and look at it if you want

It makes me laugh when i went and bought memory stick the guy at the cash offered me to install it for $39.99 I laugh when he said that and said to him at that rate you must make $800 an hour salary he gave me such a look, please it takes 5 minutes to do that when you don't what your doing and a minute when you do.
I'm happy i know my way around a computer because (sorry HasidicEnforcer nothing personal) PC repairpeople are mostly crooks. |

The best thing you can do is learn how to upgrade, repair, and build your own computers. That way, YOU are the one who gets to decide what you want in your rig. You won't go through any of the malarkey the OEMs like DELL or Gateway do by selling you third-rate products at a 1000% markup or quoting your a "sweet" deal on something that simply won't work properly.
There's also the issues of having strangers leering into your computer files when you've left your computer with them. If there's anything that screams "identity theft", that'd be it. |

I charge $50 per hour. Most shops around here charge $75.

BTW, the A+ cert will not be enough to go out & start your own business. You need lots of hands on experience & there is plenty to learn. I'd start off working for a shop & go from there. That'll give you a better idea of what you need to learn & what is needed in the IT field.
Here's some topics to look into if you're wanting to do it for a living: Server 2003, Exchange server, Terminal services, Quickbooks, MS Office Suite, Virus/Spyware removal (there's some pretty nasty ones out there nowadays), hardware troubleshooting/upgrade, etc. |
