What would be a good value for the money mp3 player? Not interested in Apple Ipods I think they are over rated.

What are your requirements?

Like, I, for instance, wouldn't put up with anything Apple.

I use a Sony PSP with a memory card for tunes. I have it velcroed to my dash & hooked up to my car stereo.

I have a 16G Creative Zen. I've had a couple of their different ones and I've got no problems with them. I even have a tendency to drop and abuse my MP3 players too, and I've gotten a better deal than with equivalents from Apple or Microsoft.

I am using Oasis, mainly for listening to mp3 while running.

I needed to have multi line screen, so that I can see which song is before and which is after the one currently selected, and to browse through few folders.

I hate DRM. Oasis has none of that crap.

I needed to be able to use it to record an occasional thought, so it has a microphone and a build-in speaker.

I do not like when I can not access the player storage directly, so I have picked this one, because it's just usual mini USB port, and none of the "management" nonsense.

I can't run more than 10 miles, so it has 2 GB on board and a slide in MINI SD card just in case.

While running, I need to be able to find a button by touch, so it has actual buttons.

I did not need to fight with the wheel control (too easy to move unintentionally), so it doesn't have one.

The music quality is "not too shabby". I am not a musician, but I have asked a musician to test that for me.

I wanted to have a radio, but AM is not really possible on a small device, so it only has FM, which I do not use.

It can display album graphics and lyrics, which I do not care about.

It can display text files... haven't used that function.

It can play videos, but porn on the run isn't really my thing.

I don't think this is an important device, so it cost me like $40.

Oh, yes, it is small enough not to be bothered by, and yet, not too small where you couldn't press just one button.

The battery life is way more than I need, I can run 10 times and still need not recharge it. (Rechargeable battery inside).

I use a Creative Zen Stone Touch Plus with 2GB capacity. The MSRP on the things is something like fifty bucks, but you can find them for around half of that. It's small (a little smaller than a matchbook), it's light, and while the interface is a wee bit... well... crappy, it puts out decent sound depending on the ear buds you're using with it.

They also just released a new Zen Stone with a larger battery and a built-in speaker, too. It'll cost you a little more, but you get more playtime out if (20 hours continuous vs. 9.5 hours with the Zen Stone Plus).
