When do you decide to seek out friends and why do you choose certain people over others to talk to? When I need them. I choose them based on their wisdom, ability to empathise, and help me. Not necessarily in the ways I want - but in the ways I need. |

I like people with a sense of humor, and some intelligence. If I am going to have a friend I want a conversation that can make me laugh and think at the same time. Oh and someone who can drink alot of alcohol!

Other times, I do not purposely seek them out. Friendships just develop naturally with people I connect with over time. To be my friend, I must be able to respect you, like you, and trust you. I tend to trust different people for different reasons. It also helps if you have a sense of humor or can appreciate humor, care about family, are loyal, considerate, kind, and talented or smart. I do not necessarily have to share common interests with friends. My friendships are eclectic. However, having similar values, ethics, and life goals helps.

I enjoy chatting with a variety of different people. But there has to be some sort of common ground or it'll just fizzle out.

I tend to seek out friends with whom I share activities rather than interests: I'd rather talk about having done it and how to do it better than about someone else having done it.

I don't think that I have ever made a decision to make friends with someone. It just happens. I will pretty much talk to someone and then it goes from there. If I think they are fun to be with and interesting, not some weirdo, then why not be friends.
